Jupiler Pro League Season Preview & Outright Betting Odds

Here at betting.bet we’ll assess the chances of some of the early market leaders

As one of the earliest-starting top-flight professional football leagues in Europe, the 2024/25 Belgian Pro League season got underway at the weekend and this season’s title race could feature as many as six clubs.

Here at betting.bet we’ll assess the chances of some of the early market leaders, providing odds from our online sports betting partners at William Hill.

The Title Favourites

Club Brugge finished fourth in the league stage of last season’s Pro League before going on to be crowned champions for the 19th time thanks to an unbeaten play-off campaign that produced seven wins and three draws in ten matches.

Club Brugge have undoubtedly been the busiest club in the transfer market this summer with the sale of Brentford-bound Igor Thiago funding the acquisitions of a series of new signings including Christos Tzolis, Gustaf Nilsson, Zaid Romero, Ardon Jashari and Hugo Siquet. Despite forking out in excess of €28 million on new players, Club Brugge have turned a profit this summer with the sale of Igor Thiago worth €33 million.

Nilsson Pinched From Rivals

The recruitment of Gustaf Nilsson could prove key as he moves to Club Brugge from last season’s title rivals Union St Gilloise. The transfer has left a huge void at Union St Gilloise, one that 23-year-old Promise David is hoping to fill. David joins from Estonian top-flight side Nomme Kalju having scored 14 goals in 16 league games for the Estonians last season.

Union St Gilloise finished seven points clear at the league’s summit in the regular season in 2023/24 but lost their first four play-off matches and eventually missed out to Club Brugge in the title race.

Can Anderlecht Build On Last Season?

Anderlecht finished third in both the regular season and overall having achieved their highest points-per-game total in more than a decade. In their 30 matches during the regular season, Anderlecht earned 63 points with 18 wins and 9 draws.

However, the 34-time Belgian champions will head into the new campaign without one of their key players from last season after young centre back Zeno Debast moved to Sporting Lisbon just before Euro 2024 for the princely sum of €15.5 million. The Belgian international, who was nominated for Player of the Season at Anderlecht last season, has been replaced by former AC Milan defender Jan-Carlo Simic. The 19-year-old heads to Belgium in a €3 million deal.

Gent v Genk: A New Rivalry Established

Gent have recorded the highest net spend in the Belgian Pro League so far this summer, shelling out more than €8 million to bring youngsters Mathias Delorge, Andri Gudjohnsen and Max Dean to the club. Gent missed out on a play-off spot to Genk on goal difference last season and ironically were led into the new campaign by former Genk head coach Wouter Vrancken. Vrancken had announced his desire to leave Genk at the end of last season but was dismissed three games into their play-off campaign. In a further twist of fate, Genk and Gent met in the European competition play-off match in June. Gent’s narrow 1-0 win away at the Cegeka Arena has clinched European qualification for the upcoming campaign.
