This week, the Punchestown Festival has ensured National Hunt racing has remained the major draw for race fans in the UK and Ireland however, at the weekend, Flat racing takes centre stage. Newmarket Racecourse hosts the first two Classics of the season with the 2000 and 1000 Guineas taking place on Saturday and Sunday respectively. Here at we'll run the rule over the two Group 1 races, bringing odds from our betting partners at bet365.

2000 Guineas Betting

Last year's champion two-year-old, Native Trail enhanced his 2000 Guineas chances with a commanding Craven Stakes win here just two weeks ago. In winning the Craven Stakes, Native Trail made a couple of talented rivals look really average. Native Trail landed two Group 1 wins in the autumn but it was his run at Newmarket a fortnight ago that consolidated his position at the head of the 2000 Guineas market.

William Buick rides the red-hot favourite for the in-form Charlie Appleby yard and it will take something really special to stop him extending his record to six wins from six.

Stablemate, Coroebus is another excellent Godolphin prospect but William Buick's decision to ride Native Trail instead is telling.

Aidan O'Brien's unbeaten Luxembourg is more than capable of springing a shock on Saturday. O'Brien has ten previous 2000 Guineas wins, including four in five years between 2015 and 2019. Luxembourg, son of 2012 winner, Camelot, is the antepost favourite to win the Epsom Derby in June and he has to potential to win over the shorter trip at Newmarket on Saturday.

Race Odds

  • 10/11: Native Trail

  • 40/1: Boundless Ocean

1000 Guineas Betting

Aidan O'Brien also has a couple of leading chances in the 1000 Guineas on Sunday. O'Brien has won this five times in the last six years and both Tenebrism and Tuesday will run for the leading trainer.

Tenebrism, daughter of Caravaggio looks well-bred and has impressed on two previous starts. Followed up a maiden win at Naas with an impressive run when landing the Group 1 Juddmonte Cheveley Park Stakes here in September.

Last year's winning jockey, Frankie Dettori rides stablemate, Tuesday. Tuesday followed in the footsteps of Tenebrism by winning this year's renewal of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Naas.
