WWE in Talks to Legalise Betting on Scripted Wrestling Matches
WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment) is reportedly in talks with state gambling regulators to legalise betting on scripted wrestling matches.

According to sources, WWE is in talks with EY, a legal firm more commonly known as Ernst & Young. The organisation is said to be working on a system whereby match results are concealed and will not be leaked to bettors. EY has been chosen due to the firm's experience in the area, having worked with top awards organisations, including the likes of the Academy Awards and the Emmys. WWE has engaged with EY to put legal pillars in place to keep results a secret.
To further secure the result of the scripted match, WWE executives plan on telling the wrestlers the outcome just before they enter a match.
According to many, WWE executives have used Oscars betting as a model to convince regulators that gambling on scripted matches is safe. Although most states do not permit it, betting on the Academy Awards is legal and available through some sports betting sites, including top brands like FanDuel and DraftKings.
The announcement comes just weeks before WWE's marquee PPV event, Wrestlemania. Roman Reigns will defend his undisputed heavyweight title against Cody Rhodes in the main event of the 39th edition of the event, which will take place over two nights at SoFi Stadium.
