    Wise And Wonderful 5/1

    Oisin Murphy/Andrew Balding

    Live price from Bet365

WISE AND WONDERFUL hasn't quite lived up to her name lately, but a return to handicap company could be just what the doctor ordered. Andrew Balding's filly went agonisingly close at Epsom two starts ago, finishing runner-up to Bincimbal, and she's only 1lb higher in the weights today. That suggests she's still on a perfectly workable mark if she can reproduce that effort. Her latest Goodwood appearance was disappointing, but she's shown enough ability this season to deserve another chance. She's still relatively lightly raced and has the assistance of Oisin Murphy, who knows a thing or two about getting a horse's head in front. This will be her third visit to Goodwood, so hopefully she's finally worked out where the winning post is. With a return to handicap company in her favour and her Epsom form putting her firmly in the picture, Wise And Wonderful looks capable of getting back to winning ways.

    Storming Point 17/2

    Luke Morris/Gary & Josh Moore

    Live price from Bet365

STORMING POINT looks dangerously well handicapped from a mark of 84 and could come flying home if the race is run at a decent gallop. Gary and Josh Moore's gelding ran a cracker at Glorious Goodwood despite being drawn out in the car park in stall 20, before catching the eye again at York's Ebor meeting, where trouble in running prevented him from finishing considerably closer. Those performances suggest he's better than his current rating, particularly with a peak RPR of 105 to his name. He also gets in with just 8st 7lb today, while stall three should give Luke Morris a much better opportunity to secure a decent position without covering unnecessary ground. The good-to-soft ground, soft in places, should provide a proper test, and with 13 runners there ought to be enough pace to bring his finishing kick into play. Of course, Goodwood isn't always the easiest place to come from behind, and Storming Point has spent enough time looking at other horses' backsides this season to qualify as a rear-view mirror. But with a workable mark, a favourable draw and plenty of evidence that he's capable of better, Storming Point looks ready to put those unlucky runs behind him. If Morris can find daylight at the right moment, he could be finishing stronger than anything.

    Fratas 17/2

    J M Sheridan/Joseph Patrick O'Brien

    Live price from Bet365

FRATAS has tested the patience of punters often enough, but I'm prepared to give her one more chance now she's dropping back in trip on ground that should play to her strengths. She's been disappointing since joining her current yard, and anyone who has backed her recently could be forgiven for giving her a wide berth. However, there have been glimpses of ability, and the combination of a shorter distance and more suitable underfoot conditions offers some hope that she can finally put it all together. There's also a feeling this could be last-chance saloon for Fratas. Connections have changed the conditions of her assignment, and I wouldn't be surprised if they've had this race in mind as an opportunity to get her back on track. Whether that's actually the plan is another matter, but the placement certainly catches the eye. She's not one to trust blindly, but sometimes these frustrating types pop up just when everyone has finally given up on them. Fratas might have one last trick up her sleeve.
