Australian Open Semi Final: Men’s Singles

Betting tips, commentary and odds

The men's singles competition at the Australian Open has reached the semi-final stage and four of the top seven seeds are now within touching distance of claiming the first Grand Slam of 2022. Here at betting.bet, we'll preview Friday's semi-finals, bring both match and outright odds courtesy of our betting partners at William Hill.

Nadal, the record-breaker?

All the pre-tournament talk was centred on whether or not Novak Djokovic would move ahead of Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal in the all-time list of Grand Slams by winning a 21st Slam in Melbourne.

However, it is sixth seed Rafael Nadal that now looks poised to claim Grand Slam number 21. The Spaniard has perhaps surprisingly only won one Australian Open title, which was way back in 2009, but he has an excellent chance of winning the tournament once again.

Nadal came through a gruelling four-hour quarter-final match against Denis Shapovalov. But he would've been encouraged by semi-final opponent, Berrettini being forced into a quarter-final marathon of his own, defeating Gael Monflis in five sets.

The bookies' pre-tournament favourite, Daniil Medvedev, will be in action in the second semi-final and having survived an almighty scare in the quarter-final, the Russian remains the one to beat. Medvedev came from two sets down and survived a match point in his last-eight match against Felix Auger-Aliassime to set up a mouth-watering showdown with Stefanos Tsitsipas in the last four.

Tsitsipas had no such trouble in his quarter-final, easing past eleventh seed, Jannik Sinner, in straight sets.

Medvedev defeated Tsitsipas at the same stage last year but the 23-year-old has since avenged that defeat, eliminating Medvedev in the quarter-final of the French Open last summer.
