Premier League Season So Far...
How have the betting odds changed?
As the Premier League takes its scheduled winter break, we step back and take stock of the season so far. Several outright betting markets have changed considerably since the start of the season and we at betting.bet assess the latest markets thanks to odds from Betfred.
Premier League Winners
Manchester City looked to have this one wrapped up. Pep Guardiola's side have a nine point advantage over Liverpool in second place, albeit it from one game more. For what it's worth, Manchester City are available at 1/9 to win a fourth title in five seasons. Nearest challengers, Liverpool are priced at 6/1.
Champions League Qualification
The leading trio of Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea look nailed on to claim three of the four Champions League spots available. The trio are priced at 1/1000, 1/250 and 1/33 respectively in this market.
Who finishes fourth is anyone's guess! Manchester United currently occupy fourth spot and the bookies have them next in the market. In what has turned into another underwhelming season for the Red Devils, they are 6/4 to finish in the top four.
Tottenham Hotspur are a huge threat to Manchester United's top four hopes. Spurs are much improved under Antonio Conte and head into the winter break two points behind Manchester United but with two games in hand.
The betting markets appear to suggest it'll be one from four with Manchester United, Spurs, Arsenal and West Ham United all in contention. However, there are potentially eight sides vying for that final top four spot. The likes of Wolves, Leicester City, Aston Villa and Brighton & Hove Albion should not be ignored.
Here are the latest odds for a top four finish:
- Manchester United: 6/4
- Spurs: 13/8
- Arsenal: 5/2
- West Ham United: 9/1
- Wolves: 33/1
- Leicester City: 50/1
- Aston Villa: 100/1
- Brighton: 100/1
Relegation
Norwich City looked dead and buried a couple of weeks ago but back-to-back wins have seen the Canaries climb out of the relegation zone.
Dean Smith's side are still the bookies' favourite to drop into the second tier but the market is a lot tighter than it was at the turn of the year.
It looks like being three from four for the drop with Norwich City embroiled in a relegation scrap with Newcastle United, Watford and Burnley.
Newcastle United will spend money during the final days of the transfer window whilst Watford with hope new manager, Roy Hodgson gets an immediate response from his flailing Hornets.
Burnley are the only side in the league's bottom five not to make a managerial change this season but many feel this may be one season too far for Sean Dyche. Insufficient investment over several seasons has left Burnley with a small, ageing squad that is struggling for goals. The Clarets have games in hand over all the teams above them but their small squad may struggle with the demands of any potential fixture pile-up.
Here's the latest relegation odds:
- Norwich City: 1/4
- Watford: 4/11
- Burnley: 1/2
- Newcastle United: 11/8
Golden Boot
Liverpool's Mohamed Salah looks nailed on to claim a third Golden Boot. The Egyptian has scored 16 goals already this season and is now just 1/4 to finish on top of the scoring charts.
If you brave enough to oppose Salah in the Golden Boot market then Cristiano Ronaldo (10/1) and Diogo Jota (12/1) come next in the market. With a modest return of eight and ten goals respectively, the duo have some way to go to surpass Salah's goal-scoring exploits.
