England & Wales World Cup Overview
England & Wales World Cup Overview

We take a brief look into World Cup Betting and the chances of the home nation's teams at the FIFA 22 Qatar World Cup. Can the talented team of England go one step further and make the finals, and can Wales defy all odds and go on a similar run that saw them reach the 2016 European Championship semi-finals?

England's World Cup Chances

England is looking good to repeat their success of Russia 2018 as they head to Qatar with a star-studded squad, including Golden Goal winner Harry Kane.

In 2018 England narrowly missed out on the final after losing a close encounter with Croatia, where many feel England Manager Southgate's limited top-level management experience cos the England team with some very questionable tactics. Since then, England has made the European final, once again missing out against Italy, where Southgate's critics quickly questioned his tactical competency. Despite signing a new contract, this may be his last chance with England to truly demonstrate they have progressed from their tournament nativities.

A host of players on the verge of becoming World Class England have talent in abundance. Man City's Phil Foden has the talent to make a real impression, along with Arsenal's Bukayo Saka Saka. However, England's chances will depend on their defence, where they have out-of-form players and players returning from injuries. This limited recent playing time may be their downfall despite having one of the world's best defensive midfielders, Declan Rice, sat just in front of them.

England must also shrug off their recent International performances, which saw them get humiliated at home to Hungary 0-4 in a summer which saw only defeats and draws, hardly the perfect preparation for Qatar 2022. England has the talent to go all the way but can the management get the best out of one of the best teams at Qatar 2022?

Wales' World Cup Chances

Wales is heading to the World Cup Finals for the first time in 64 years. Most Welsh football fans have never seen their team at a World Cup. Welsh football has enjoyed recent success, which includes appearances in successive European finals which saw them reach the semi-finals in 2016 after knocking out favourites Belgium. They would eventually lose out to Christiano Ronaldo's Portugal, who went on to win the tournament.

Wales has some stand-out players, including Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey. However, both are at the end of their careers this will almost certainly be Gareth Bale's last international tournament. Bale is 13/8 to be Wales' top goalscorer. Dan James is one of a few notable Welsh players who play in the Premier League. However, overall they lack severe depth in the squad and stand little chance of progressing far at Qatar 2022. They are a massive 100/1 to win the World Cup, and even the most loyal Welsh fans should keep their money in their pockets this time.

Wales scraped through to the finals by winning the toughest of playoff matches against Ukraine after coming second to FIFA top 10 ranked side Belgium in their qualifying group.

They have had a fortunate group stage draw with England, Iran and USA. Despite England being one of the best teams in the world, the rivalry between these two countries ensures a highly competitive match where Wales will fancy themselves to win. Overall, Wales has little chance however may get out of the Group stages. They are 6/5 to proceed to the knockout round, which seems short and probably best left.
