Before UFC 285, Drake went on social media to say that he had put two big bets on Jones to finish Gane, whose only other loss was to Francis Ngannou, which went the full distance.
UFC betting has spiked in popularity in recent years, especially in the UK. But, it appears that people across the pond are also enjoying a punt on UFC, including the likes of Canadian rapper, Drake.
Before UFC 285, Drake went on social media to say that he had put two big bets on Jones to finish Gane, whose only other loss was to Francis Ngannou, which went the full distance.
The rap star put £207,730 on the former two-time light-heavyweight champion to win by knockout and £207,730 on him to win by submission.
If the 35-year-old had won by knockout, Drake would have made £1.08 million ($1.3 million), but when Jones tapped Gane out in a little more than two minutes, Drake made £1.41 million.
Drake is known for betting on athletes or sports teams that go on to lose. Last week, Jake Paul became the latest person to fall victim to this "curse."
"The Problem Child" knocked out Tommy Fury late in their grudge match in Saudi Arabia, but he lost by a split decision because he had been outboxed for most of the fight.
Before the fight, Drake said that he had bet £335,000 on Paul to win by method of knockout. After the fight, the former Disney actor joked that the Canadian was to blame for his loss.
Paul commented:
“This is Drake's fault! Drake bro, why did you do this to me?“It's my fault. $400,000 is nothing for him and he's won a lot more money betting on me before, so he's probably about even now. Sorry Drake, I'm gonna get that W in the rematch.”
Tommy Fury responded:
“He's lost a lot of money the silly fella, actually he's not a silly fella, $400,000 to him is about £4 to us, but he won't be doing that again.”
