2023 Wimbledon: Online Betting Odds, Tips and Predictions

A preview of the Men's and Women's Wimbledon title contendors

We are now less than two weeks away from the start of Wimbledon with excitement building for tennis fans, players and bettors alike. The Wimbledon Championship is the oldest and most prestigious tennis tournament in the world and one of tennis’ four Grand Slam events. Here at betting.bet we take a look back at past Wimbledon tournaments to understand what makes this event so special as well as providing the latest news, odds and betting tips ahead of the 2023 edition thanks to our betting partners at Interbet.

Wimbledon Men’s Singles

Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray are the only former men’s singles champions to enter this year’s tournament. Novak Djokovic is the current world number one, the top seed and the defending champion whilst Andy Murray will be unseeded in SW19 after a first round defeat at Queen’s earlier this month.

Novak Djokovic’s relentlessly successful career shows no sign as slowing as the 36-year-old continues to break record after record. Djokovic won a third French Open title earlier this month and now holds the men’s outright record for Grand Slam wins with 23. If Djokovic wins the men’s singles title at Wimbledon this year he’ll not only match the record of five consecutive Wimbledon wins held jointly by Bjorn Borg and Roger Federer but he will also equal Roger Federer’s overall record of eight Wimbledon titles.

Djokovic is in red-hot form having won both the Australian and French Open titles already this year. Incredibly, Djokovic lost just three sets across both Grand Slam tournaments, winning both finals in straight sets.

Novak Djokovic has won three of the four Grand Slams in a calendar year three times before but he’s never won all four. In fact, no man has won all four singles championships in a single calendar year since Rod Laver in 1969.

Inevitably, Novak Djokovic is the bookies’ odds-on favourite to win an eighth Wimbledon title this year but who is leading the chase to dethrone tennis’ undisputed king?

20-year-old, Carlos Alcaraz looks to be the young pretender to Djokovic’s crown and he’s next in the betting at 9/2. The Spaniard became the youngest ever player to be named the ATP’s world number one after winning the 2022 US Open. Alcaraz started 2023 by withdrawing from the Australian Open with a hamstring injury before reaching the French Open semi-finals. Alcaraz lost in four sets to Novak Djokovic at Roland Garros but should fare better at Wimbledon with that additional game time under his belt.

One player that will want to put the French Open well behind him is world number three, Daniil Medvedev. The Russian entered the French Open as the number two seed but was eliminated in round one by qualifier, Thiago Seyboth Wild. Medvedev has recently failed to hit the heights of 2021 where he won both the US Open and Davis Cup as well as reaching the final of the Australian Open but he certainly has the potential to go deep into this summer’s Wimbledon Championship.

If you’re on the search for a real gem at a bigger price you could do a lot worse than consider 24-year-old Australian, Alex de Minaur. The world number 18 often saves his best form for grass and enhanced his burgeoning reputation further by defeating Andy Murray in straight sets at the Queen’s Club Championships. De Minaur is set to face unseeded qualifier, Adrian Mannarino in the quarter-finals. The further the Australian goes into the tournament, the greater level confidence he’ll take forward to Wimbledon. Alex de Minaur reached the final of the Wimbledon boy’s tournament in 2016 and reached the fourth round of the men’s tournament for the first time last year. At 50/1, he could be worth a small each-way punt.

Wimbledon Women’s Singles

The women’s event was once dominated by the Williams sisters with Venus and Serena claiming twelve women’s singles titles between them. Prior to that we witnessed the dominance of first Martina Navratilova and then Steffi Graf who between them won 16 of the 19 Wimbledon tournaments between 1978 and 1986. However, such dominance is no longer seen with the last five Wimbledon women’s singles tournaments all producing first time winners of the competition.

Unlike the men’s singles event, there is not one stand-out player in the betting for the women’s singles tournament. We currently have three co-favourites and each can stake a real claim for the 2023 Wimbledon title.

Elena Rybakina won her first and to date only Grand Slam when claiming the 2022 women’s singles title at Wimbledon. Last year’s losing finalist, Ons Jabeur could also go deep into the tournament this year but she is still chasing a maiden Grand Slam title.

One player not short of a Grand Slam title or two is world number one, Iga Swiatek. The 22-year-old won the French Open for the third time in four years earlier this month and having also won last year’s US Open title, Swiatek heads to Wimbledon with four Grand Slams under her belt. Whilst her grass play isn’t quite on the same level as that displayed on clay, Swiatek looks superb value at 4/1 to win the women’s single title.

Just like the men’s singles tournament, we’d love to find a potential winner at a real gem of a price in the women’s singles event. One player that looks to be a lot better than her odds suggest is 28/1 shot, Ekaterina Alexandrova. The Russian athlete is currently ranked number 22 in the world and has never been higher than 18th in the world. However, she has shown superb recent form on grass. Alexandrova kicked off the month by winning the Libema Open over in the Netherlands and is currently impressing in the German Open, defeating fifth seed, Coco Gauff in straight sets.
