Formula One: British Grand Prix

An online betting preview...

The 2023 Formula One season heads to Silverstone next weekend for the British Grand Prix. The iconic race is one of just two Grands Prix to be contested every year since the inaugural Formula One World Championship in 1950 and is the tenth race on this year’s calendar. This season’s World Championship has been dominated by Red Bull thus far and their drivers will be red-hot favourites to come out on top at Silverstone. Here at freebets.ltd.uk we’ll preview the British Grand Prix, offering the best Formula One free bets and odds from popular bookmakers, Betfred.

2022 recap

Last year’s British Grand Prix was won by Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz Jr ahead of Sergio Perez and eight-time race winner, Lewis Hamilton. Sainz started the GP on pole position but temporarily surrendered the lead to Max Verstappen on the first lap. Sainz reclaimed the lead after Verstappen was involved in a crash on just the second lap of the race. The Spaniard led for 26 of the race’s 52 laps.

The Season So Far

Red Bull have been head and shoulders above the other constructors in the first nine races of the 2023 championship. Max Verstappen looks on course for a third successive World Championship win having won seven of the nine races so far. The Dutchman finished second in the other two races behind teammate, Sergio Perez.

Fernando Alonso currently sits third in the World Drivers’ Championship standings thanks to six podium finishes in nine races.

F1 Betting Tips

With seven first and two second place finishes from nine races so far, Max Verstappen is inevitably a huge favourite to win the British Grand Prix. At 1/3, he’s certainly not too short to back as the outright race winner.

However, there are several other markets we’re keen to explore. Two-time world champion, Fernando Alonso has enjoyed a fine start to the current season and is a superb choice at 6/4 to claim a top three finish.

Alternatively, the home crowd would love to see Lewis Hamilton back on the Silverstone podium. Two of Hamilton’s three podium finishes in 2023 have come in the past three Grands Prix. Hamilton is 11/10 to finish on the podium whilst he is excellent value for money at 12/1 to extend his record to nine British Grand Prix wins.

One of the more unpredictable markets to predict is the fastest lap. There have been six different drivers to claim the fastest lap in the nine races staged so far. Charles Leclerc probably offers the best value for money at 12/1 in this particular market. Lewis Hamilton produced the fastest lap of the race in the 2022 British Grand Prix and is 10/1 to repeat the achievement this year.
