Who to Bet on in the MLS

The MLS regular season will resume on August 21st upon the conclusion of the month-long Leagues Cup. As one of the fastest growing domestic leagues in world football, the MLS attracts plenty of interest from sports bettors across the globe. Here at betting.bet we will take a look at some of the more popular MLS bets for the weeks and months ahead and provide MLS Cup odds from our partners at 888sport.

When the MLS campaign resumes, all eyes will be on one team; Inter Miami FC. The franchise owned by David Beckham have made several hugely exciting recruitments both on and off the field recently. Inter Miami FC find themselves languishing at the foot of the MLS’ Eastern Conference with just five wins from 22 matches. That poor run of form prompted a managerial change with Phil Neville replaced by Gerardo ‘Tata’ Martino.

Martino previously spent over two years in the MLS with Atlanta United, winning the 2018 MLS Cup. Either side of his spell at Atlanta United, Martino was involved in the international game, first managing Argentina between 2014 and 2016 before taking charge of Mexico from January 2019 until November 2022.

However, it seems his one season in charge of Barcelona during the 2013/14 campaign could be the most significant. Following the appointment of Tata Martino, Inter Miami have moved to snap up three key members of the great Barcelona squad of the past decade. Sergio Busquets swapped Catalonia for Miami, ending his 18-year spell at Spanish giants, Barcelona. Four days later, Busquets was joined by Spain and Barcelona teammate, Jordi Alba.

However, the third former Barcelona player to make the switch to Inter Miami this summer is undoubtedly the one to stir up the most excitement. Seven-time Ballon d’Or winner, Lionel Messi signed for the franchise from Paris Saint-Germain. Messi, arguably the greatest footballer of all time, has kicked off his Inter Miami in predictable fashion and is currently the joint-top scorer in the Leagues Cup with five goals in three matches. Messi may be in the twilight of his career now at 36, but he is more than capable of leading the Inter Miami charge towards what still seems an unlikely play-off spot. However, at 12/1, do not bet against Inter Miami FC producing a strong performance in the upcoming MLS Cup.

The MLS Cup outright betting is led by FC Cincinnati. The current Eastern Conference leaders are on course to win the Supporters’ Shield thanks a strong regular season. Spearheaded by Luciano Acosta, the 29-year-old is currently ranked in the top five for both goals (12) and assists (8) in the MLS and could be a solid option to be named MVP.

Los Angeles FC and Philadelphia Union have both made shrewd yet lesser known acquisitions over the summer but look well-positioned to kick on in the summer months. Philadelphia Union have snapped up Israeli international forward, Tai Baribo. The 25-year-old joins from Austrian side, Wolfsberger and boasts an impressive scoring record. As well as netting 11 eleven in 29 Bundesliga games past season, Baribo also has 3 goals in 7 international matches for Israel.

Los Angeles FC have drafted in 21-year-old midfielder, Filip Krastev on loan from Belgian side, Lommel. Krastev spent last season on loan at Levski Sofia where he managed eight goals and five assists.
