The managerial sack race is the topic of season-long discussions but who will be the first manager out of the door? Find the latest odds and predictions now!
We’re one week into the new Premier League season and the outright betting markets continue to attract plenty of interest. The one market that nobody wants to find themselves near the top of is the betting for the next manager to leave their post. The managerial sack race is the topic of season-long discussions but who will be the first manager out of the door? Here at betting.bet we’ll take a look at the managers that feature prominently in the betting, offering odds and Premier League free bets courtesy of our partners at BetZone.
Frustration at Sheffield United
Paul Heckingbottom is the bookies’ favourite to get the chop with his Sheffield United side tipped by many for an immediate return to the Championship. Heckingbottom has a better win percentage than any previous permanent manager at the club but a poor summer transfer window is likely to lead to an immediate return to the second tier. Not only have Sheffield United been fairly underwhelming with their acquisitions but they’ve let arguably their best two players leave in Iliman Ndiaye and Sander Berge.
The Blades face several of their likely relegation rivals in the first few weeks and you feel the matches against Nottingham Forest (away) and Everton (home) before the international transfer window could make or break their season.
Moyes at Loggerheads
David Moyes guided West Ham United to their first major silverware in a generation last season so it may seem a little surprising to see the Hammers boss so short in the betting. However, it is no secret that Moyes and new West Ham United technical director, Tim Steidten do not see eye-to-eye. West Ham United’s quiet summer has been blamed on the fact that Moyes and Steidten cannot agree on the type of players they should be looking to recruit.
The recent signings of Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse could indicate that the pair have resolved their differences but it does feel like a matter of time before one of the two are moved on.

Steve Cooper has been near the top of this particular market for well over twelve months now yet he’s still in a job at Nottingham Forest. Cooper is well-regarded by the hierarchy at the City Ground but there have been groans coming out of Nottingham Forest about the lack of transfer activity this summer. So far, Nottingham Forest have signed just three players with Matt Turner, Anthony Elanga and Ola Aina joining from Arsenal, Manchester United and Torino respectively. However, after last season’s circus which saw more than twenty new players arrive at Nottingham Forest, a little stability is probably not a bad thing!
Three of Nottingham Forest’s next five league games are against Manchester United, Chelsea and Manchester City. The two home games against Sheffield United and Burnley coming up are both winnable and maximum points would certainly ease the unrest at the City Ground.
Another club that have been worryingly inactive in the transfer market during the summer is Everton. The failure to address an obvious lack of goal-scoring options could leave Everton in deep trouble this season.
Manager, Sean Dyche is used to performing miracles on a shoestring as he did throughout his Burnley tenure however, pressure will build if they fail to capitalise on a modest run of fixtures. The Toffees have already lost one winnable game as Fulham took all three points from Goodison Park on the opening weekend. Next up are Aston Villa, Wolves and Sheffield United and you feel anything less than five points will really crank up the pressure on Dyche.
Where’s the Value?
A quick glance at the current betting market and there are two managers that stand out for two very different reasons. Fulham boss, Marco Silva is in no danger of the sack at Craven Cottage having guided the club to a top-half finish last season.

The West Londoners kicked off the new season with a deserved 1-0 win away at Everton however, Marco Silva could be worth backing at 16/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave his post. Silva’s ambition and perceived lack of loyalty have been well-documented in the past, in particular when he engineered a move from Watford to Everton.
Silva was offered a massive £40m over two years to take over at Al-Hilal in the Saudi Pro League. Upon rejecting the move, Al-Hilal reappointed former head coach, Jorge Jesus. The 69-year-old was initially linked to the manager’s job with the Saudi Arabian national team and it would not be a surprise to see that move happen if Silva can be prised away from Craven Cottage.
The second manager on offer at a big price is Andoni Iraola. Bournemouth have been busy in the summer transfer window and made some exciting acquisitions. Under Iraola, the Cherries are a complete unknown; they could finish top half, rock-bottom or anywhere in between!

The opening couple of months will be a real test for Iraola and Bournemouth’s ambitious new owners. A gruelling run of fixtures will see Bournemouth take on Liverpool, Spurs, Brentford, Chelsea, Brighton and Arsenal in their next six fixtures. Can the Spaniard survive until the end of September? We’re not sure. But the longer Bournemouth have to wait for a first win of the season, the shorter the odds of Iraola being sacked will become. For this reason, Iraola to be the first man out of the door has to be considered now at 12/1.
