York’s Ebor Festival will take place this coming week with four days of top-class horse racing to look forward to from Wednesday to Saturday. There are seven races taking place across each day of the meeting which means plenty of opportunities to find a winner! Here at betting.bet we’ll cast our eye over some of the week’s biggest races, providing odds from our betting partners at William Hill.
Juddmonte International Stakes
The feature race on day one of the Ebor Festival is the Juddmonte International Stakes. The Group 1 race is contested over a distance of 1m2f and open to horses aged three years and over.
Trainer, Aidan O’Brien is chasing a record-breaking seventh win in the race and has an excellent chance with Paddington. The three-year-old has won four straight Group 1 races within the space of three months. Having landed the Irish 2000 Guineas at the Curragh in May, Paddington has stormed to a hat-trick of Group 1s in the UK. First he claimed the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot before winning the Coral-Eclipse and most recently the Sussex Stakes at Glorious Goodwood.
A much-anticipated showdown with last year’s Derby winner, Desert Crown has not materialised after Sir Michael Stoute’s four-year-old sustained another injury setback.
Paddington’s main danger is likely to come in the form of the John & Thady Gosden-trained Mostahdaf. The five-year-old landed the Prince of Wales’s Stakes last time out at Royal Ascot.
Stablemate, Nashwa looks excellent value at 12/1, especially based on the form shown when winning the Falmouth Stakes at Newmarket in July. Running on when third in the Group 1 Nassau Stakes last time out and offers excellent each-way value.
Similarly, Alflaila looks a great each-way bet if he can build on his York Stakes win over C&D in July. Alflaila has won four successive races for trainer, Owen Burrows but this is undoubtedly a step up in quality.
Race odds
- 8/13: Paddington
- 9/4: Mostahdaf
- 12/1: Nashwa
- 14/1: Alflaila
- 16/1: The Foxes, Bay Bridge
- 66/1: Point Lonsdale
Pertemps Network Yorkshire Oaks
Thursday’s feature race is another Group 1 contest with 12 entries confirmed for the Yorkshire Oaks. The iconic race was first run back in 1849 and open to fillies and mares aged three years and over.
Just like Wednesday’s Juddmonte, there’s an Aidan O’Brien-trained odds-on favourite in Yorkshire Oaks. Savethelastdance won the Irish Oaks last time out, bouncing back from a second-place finish in the English equivalent down at Epsom in early June.
Bluestocking finished half a length off Savethelastdance in the Irish Oaks and the bookies believe she’ll once again provide the strongest challenge. However, you cannot ignore Nassau Stakes winner, Al Husn at 6/1. Al Husn has one seven of her last eight races with only Dahlia Stakes winner, Via Sistina finishing ahead of her since October 2021.
Race Odds
- 9/4: Savethelastdance
- 7/2: Bluestocking
- 5/1: Free Wind
- 6/1: Al Husn
- 8/1: Rosscarbery
- 12/1: Sea Silk Road
- 14/1: Stay Alert, Warm Heart
- 16/1: Poptronic, Novakai
- 66/1: Red Riding Hood, Lambada
Coolmore Wootton Bassett Nunthorpe Stakes
Friday’s feature race, yet another Group 1, is the 5f Nunthorpe Stakes. First run in 1922, the Nunthorpe is the first Group 1 race of the meeting open to two-year-olds.
Ten horses have won the Nunthorpe Stakes on more than one occasion and last year’s winner, Highfield Princess heads the market again this year.
Highfield Princess was back on the Knavesmire in May’s Clipper Stakes, finishing a close second to Azure Blue. John Quinn’s six-year-old, Highfield Princess is a short-price favourite following her Goodwood success in the Qatar Stakes.
Highfield Princess was second in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and she’ll go head-to-head with race winner, Bradsell once again this week. Bradsell is not the only Royal Ascot winner set to line up for the Nunthorpe Stakes. Big Evs won the Windsor Castle Stakes whilst Khaadem was a shock 80/1 winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Stakes.
Race Odds
- 11/8: Highfield Princess
- 7/2: Bradsell
- 11/2: Big Evs
- 9/1: Regional
- 10/1: Dramatised
- 14/1: Twilight Calls
- 16/1: Art Power
- 20/1: Khaadem, Equality
- 25/1: The Antarctic
- 33/1: Live In The Dream, Queen Me, Ladies Church
- 40/1: Get Ahead, Makarova, Aesop’s Fables, Nymphadora
- 66/1: Tees Spirit
- 100/1: Fine Wine
