Saturday's Racing Preview & Betting Tips

With several decent cards this Saturday, we check out the most fancied runners from the UK and Ireland, focusing on the races live on ITV Racing. So, if you are looking to place a horse racing bet this weekend, check out these free racing tips!

Saturday’s racing comes from Chelmsford, Kempton, Warwick, Wolverhampton and Weatherby, as well as the sole meet from Ireland at Fairyhouse. We take a look at the views from around the racing fraternity. We also twisted the arm of our very own Barry Hill to give us his insights into his best bets of the day!

Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle

The Coral Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle is the highlight at Kempton is the feature race at the meeting with a strong field competing for over 50k in prize Money.

The Nicky Henderson trained Impose Toi leads the field at around 7/2 with leading bookmakers.

IMPOSE TOI, with his impressive record in handicap races, appears to be a strong contender and may still have untapped potential, making him a top pick. King Alexander, another promising and less-experienced horse from the Henderson stable, ranks as a close second choice, followed by Sonigino. Nemean Lion, though there are doubts about his ability to handle the longer distance, could be a significant player if he manages the endurance aspect. Lastly, Quinta Do Mar is a potential dark horse, likely to excel despite possibly long odds.

Impose Toi is much fancied by racing community and is the NAP selection for many tipsters includes the 'Sun's' very own Template..

"IMPOSE TOI just gets the nod over Sonigino in what looks a cracking Lanzarote.

The tip came to prominence when winning a hot novice contest at Cheltenham in November. He then improved on that when beaten a neck by stablemate Luccia in the Betfair Trophy at Ascot last time. He may well have won but for a late mistake and was closing right to the line. He has run over hurdles just six times and should be open to improvement over this longer trip."

Pundits Picks

The racing showman Matt Champan for Paddy Power gives his option on the ITV’s racing coverage .

13:10 Wetherby – Trelawne - 100/30

“TV Saturday gets under way here with the Grade 2 Towton Novices’ Chase over an extended 2m3f. Meetingofthwaters might want further, and I’m going to chance a horse I Love in TRELAWNE for Kim Bailey and David Bass. My hope loves deep ground and really impressed me over hurdles at Ffos Las last season. Chasing this term has gone well and he was a fair third at Cheltenham when last seen. I think he might be a bit better than that effort suggests.”

13:30 Kempton – Flegmatik - 5/2

“ITV’s main coverage Saturday is at Kempton and Warwick and at Kempton begins with this handicap chase over 3m. FLEGMATIK is not chucked in for this but can operate off 137 well enough and goes well at the track. His third at Ascot last time was reasonable and he should have every chance for Dan Skelton with Tristan Durrell taking off a useful 3lb.”

13:49 Warwick – The Big Breakaway - 10/1

“Here’s a handicap hurdle over 3m1f. The return of Third Wind, who did this column a right turn when winning at 25-1 at Cheltenham in 2022! If ready he could easily take this. I’ll risk THE BIG BREAKAWAY bouncing back to form over hurdles after flops over fences. A mark of 137 is 10lb less than when in the Welsh National and he’s been up to 151 in his time. Stamina is no issue and there should be pace on here via Kyntara. The last time he ran over hurdles was at Newbury in 2022 when a fair third off 144.”

14:07 Kempton – Pic Dorhy 5/2

"This is a Grade 2 Chase over an extended 2m. I’m happy to stick with PIC DORHY who has everything in his favour with the course and distance ideal. The recent Ascot winner has every chance to go from the front here if he wants and should take some pegging back for the champions Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden.”

14:24 Warwick – Broadway Boy - 2/1

"Up in class for a Grade 2 novices’ chase over 3m. There’s nothing about BROADWAY BOY I don’t love and he has to be the selection for Sam and Nigel Twiston-Davies. I also adore Grey Dawning, but Broadway Boy looks a right decent sort for his team and he can give weight away here with solid jumping after a fine success at Cheltenham last time over Threeunderthrufive.”

Broadway Boy seems a tad short at 2/1 and is on the drift. Our preference is for GREY DAWNING, Twelve months ago, Dan Skelton acquired a promising chaser named Grey Dawning, who is now expected to swiftly return to winning form. This comes after Grey Dawning's recent performance at Cheltenham where, despite a late blunder, he impressively managed to finish as the runner-up. Another notable contender is the talented mare, Apple Away, trained by Lucinda Russell. She is anticipated to have a bright future and poses a significant challenge in this race. Additionally, two other competitors worth considering are The Changing Man and Broadway Boy. Both bring interesting dynamics to this captivating Grade 2 event.

14:42 Kempton – Up For Parol -11/1

“The big betting race of the day in the Lanzarote Handicap Hurdle over 2m5f. There are far sexier horses in this race than UP FOR PAROL but last season’s third is 3lb lower this time around and really should have place claims for Jamie Snowden and the excellent Tom Bellamy. My selection ran all right in a small field at Fontwell last time and you would think has been laid out for this.”

15:00 Warwick – Guetapan Collonges (Each-Way) - 11/2

“Stamina needed here for the Classic Handicap Chase over 3m5f. I think we will get a run from GUETAPAN COLLONGES here for Charlie Longsdon and Richie McLernon. He’s high enough in the weights, but the Midlands National fourth stays all day and jumps with aplomb. The third at Cheltenham last time was decent and this slightly longer trip will suit. Strong each-way bet.”

Whilst we don't dispute the claims of Chapmans selection, we prefer the value bet of Ramses De Teillee.  David Pipe appears to have his stable in rude health at present and it would come as no surprise to see the veteran grey Ramses De Teillee run a blinder in this popular big Saturday winter race – The Classic Chase.

A winner of 5 of his 25 Chase starts, I can see the twelve-year-old just lobbing along behind the pace before his stamina kicks comes into play down the home straight. Jack Tudor will be doing the steering.

15:35 Warwick – Lord Du Mensil - 10/1

“Moved from Sandown this is the veterans’ handicap chase final over 3m. Conditions are right for LORD DU MESNIL to run a big one for Lilly Pinchin and Richard Hobson. The old boy was far from disgraced over a shorter trip at Cheltenham last time and while his only previous visit here was a flop that was in a Classic Chase and this is easier.”

Barry Hill's

BetsWith 7 races on ITV we take a look at a few fancies from Barry Hill. We have asked to Bazza to give us some value bets too.

Wetherby 1:40

Paddy O'Mahler - 4/1

PADDY O'MAHLER, with his breeding favoring endurance, is likely to benefit from the longer distance this weekend. In all his three hurdle starts, including a notable performance at the Charlie Hall meeting, he's shown a need for a more challenging race. His initial BHA rating of 102 seems quite generous, especially considering he comes from a stable that has recently been successful.

Warwick 3:35

Ramses De Teillee - 6/1

I favored RAMSES DE TEILLEE for the Sandown race last weekend, which got postponed. It's promising to see him participating in the rescheduled event over a course and distance he favors. He was the runner-up in this race last year at Sandown, carrying a 4 lb higher mark. Although his form dipped afterward, he could perform well when fresh. Ramses De Teillee has had a third breathing operation since his last outing, and he typically does well after such procedures. The current conditions are in his favor, and he appears to be well handicapped for a yard with a winning record.
