The Australian Open has reached the quarter-final stage and the men’s singles tournament in particular is shaping up as a real classic. Here at betting.bet we’ll take a look at the last-eight ties in both the men’s and women’s singles tournaments whilst we’ll also check out the latest outright odds from our betting partners at BoyleSports.
Men’s Singles Quarter-Final
Incredibly, twelfth seed, Taylor Fritz is the lowest-ranked player left in the men’s draw with all the big hitters safely through to the quarter-final. In round four, the world number twelve earned a deserved win over last year’s losing finalist, Stefanos Tsitsipas. American, Fritz, has never progressed beyond the quarter-final of a Grand Slam event and he’s right up against it in Melbourne as he prepares to take on ten-time winner, Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic has won four of the past five Australian Opens but did not enter in 2022 due to Covid-related visa issue. Djokovic started this year’s tournament in underwhelming fashion, dropping a first round set to qualifier, Dino Prizmic. In round two, the Serb was a tiebreak away from going 2-1 down after three sets against home favourite, Alexei Popyrin. However, from round three onwards, Djokovic has looked ominously good. Both Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Adrian Mannarino were dispatched in straight sets.
If Novak Djokovic triumphs again at the Australian Open he will break the record of 24 Grand Slam singles titles he currently shares with Margaret Court.
Inevitably, the bookies’ odds suggest that Djokovic’s biggest threat will come in the shape of 20-year-old, Carlos Alcaraz. The Spaniard is the heir-apparent to Novak Djokovic’s title as the world’s best tennis player and he has been in excellent form in Melbourne. The two-time Grand Slam champion has never reached the semi-final of the Australian Open and takes on world number six, Alexander Zverev in the last-eight.
In his four matches so far, Alcaraz has dropped one set and his court time has been relatively low. In contrast, quarter-final opponent, Zverev has been involved in two five-set classics already. It remains to be seen what his fourth round match against Briton, Cameron Norrie has taken out of him.
In the other quarter-final matches, Jannik Sinner and Andrey Rublev are bidding for a first Australian Open semi-final before two-time finalist, Daniil Medvedev takes on ninth seed, Hubert Hurkacz.

Women’s Singles Quarter-Final
Unlike the men’s singles competition, the women’s singles event was blown wide-open but some high-profile early casualties. Iga Swiatek became the first number one seed since 1979 to fail to reach the fourth round whilst four of the top eight seeds exited at the second round stage. Swiatek was defeated by Linda Noskova and in doing so, 19-year-old, Noskova became the first teenager to defeat a world number one at a Grand Slam event since 2009.
Noskova will take on Ukrainian qualifier, Dayana Yastremska in the quarter-final which means we’re guaranteed at least one unseeded semi-finalist in Melbourne.
Awaiting the winner is either twelfth seed, Zheng Qinwen or Anna Kalinskaya. The draw has been kind to both Qinwen and Kalinskaya. 21-year-old is yet to face a single player inside the world’s top fifty whilst number 26 seed, Jasmine Paolini is the highest-ranked player that Anna Kalinskaya has encountered so far at this year’s Australian Open.
The lower half of the quarter-final draw looks far stronger with the three highest-ranked players left in the tournament in this half.
Defending champion, Aryna Sabalenka remains in the competition and is the bookies’ outright favourite. The 25-year-old hasn’t dropped a single set so far in the tournament, losing no more than three games in any one set. Quarter-final opponent, Barbora Krejcikova has not reached the last four of a Grand Slam singles event since winning the 2021 French Open. However, with three mixed doubles titles (2019, 2020 & 2021) and two women’s doubles titles (2022 & 2023), Krejcikova has won at the Australian Open in five successive years.
2024 US Open champion, Coco Gauff has reached a first ever Australian Open quarter-final and will take on Ukrainian world number 37, Marta Kostyuk in the quarter-final. Kostyuk was unfortunately grouped in the fifth section of the draw with the likes of Maria Sakkari, Caroline Wozniacki, Alize Cornet and Beatriz Haddad Maia but the 21-year-old has impressed throughout the tournament.
