Sheffield United v Aston Villa: Online Betting Preview, Tips and Odds

Saturday’s late kick-off in the Premier League comes from Bramall Lane where Sheffield United take on Aston Villa. Ahead of the 5:30pm kick-off, here at betting.bet we’ll provide the very best match odds and free bets from our partners at BetVictor as well as offering the latest team news and expert betting tips.

Team News

Sheffield United may hand a debut to deadline day signing, Mason Holgate whilst fellow January acquisition, Ben Brereton Diaz should feature despite a slight hamstring worry. Blades goalkeeper, Ivo Grbic will miss out having suffered a concussion in the midweek defeat at Crystal Palace with Wes Foderingham deputising. Forward, Rhian Brewster serves the last game of a three-game suspension.

Visitors, Aston Villa may include a deadline day signing in their match day squad having snapped up Morgan Rogers from Middlesbrough. Aston Villa remain without several first-team players including defensive trio Tyrone Mings, Pau Torres and Lucas Digne. Emi Buendia and Jhon Duran also miss out once more.

Form

Sheffield United remain rock-bottom of the Premier League with just 10 points from 22 matches. The Blades have taken just three points from their past six matches and are without a league win since December 9th.

Aston Villa have dropped off the pace at the top of the league in recent weeks but still sit fifth in the league with a seven-point lead over West Ham United in sixth. Since being held to a 1-1 by Sheffield United in the reverse fixture on December 22nd, Aston Villa have won just one of their four Premier League games.

Sheffield United v Aston Villa: Head-to-head

As mentioned, the reverse fixture at Villa Park ended in a 1-1 draw but that only tells half of the story. Aston Villa dominated the match from start to finish before former player, Cameron Archer looked to have clinched all three points for Sheffield United in the 87th minute. But Nicolo Zaniolo came off the bench to snatch a 97th minute equaliser.

It may come as a surprise to learn that Aston Villa have won just one of their past seven matches against Sheffield United and have not won at Bramall Lane since January 2018. The last times the sides met at Bramall Lane, back in March 2021, the hosts earned a 1-0 win thanks to a first-half David McGoldrick strike.

Betting Tips

Sheffield United boast the league’s worst defensive record having conceded 54 goals in their 22 Premier League games this season. Whilst Aston Villa should have too much for Sheffield United but at odds of 3/5, we think there’s better value to be found elsewhere. One example of this is in the total goals market where over 2.5 match goals looks a snip at 8/13.

There are several other bets that excite us and most involve Aston Villa’s leading marksman, Ollie Watkins. Watkins has netted ten times in the Premier League this season so is a solid option at 13/10 to score at any time at Bramall Lane. Alternatively, he is a huge 9/2 to score the first goal of the game. There’s a lot more to Watkins’ game than just goals and the Aston Villa forward actually leads the assist charts in the Premier League this season with eight assists. On Saturday, you can get 13/5 for an Ollie Watkins assist.

If you want to bet a little more conservatively then you should consider backing Watkins at 8/13 to score a goal or provide an assist at Bramall Lane. This has been selected amongst the betting.bet daily bets.
