Road to Super Bowl LVIII

Kansas City Chiefs got their Super Bowl defence underway in the worst possible way, losing the NFL Kickoff Game 21-20 to Detroit Lions. However, the Chiefs would bounce back to win the AFC West division and claim subsequent playoff wins over both Miami Dolphins (26-7) and Buffalo Bills (27-24). In the AFC Championship game, Kansas City Chiefs earned a 17-10 win over Baltimore Ravens.

San Francisco 49ers have been the standout side in the NFC throughout the season. The 49ers topped the NFC conference with a 12-5 record before edging out Green Bay Packers (24-21) in the playoff and Detroit Lions (34-31) in the NFC Championship game. The NFC Championship result only tells half the story with the 49ers trailing the Lions 24-7 at half-time. Christian McCaffrey, scorer of the game-winning touchdown against Green Bay in the playoff, stepped up again against Detroit. McCaffrey finished with 20 carries for 90 yards and two touchdowns.

McCaffrey is amongst the favourites to claim the coveted Super Bowl MVP. However, this particular market is headed by Kansas quarterback, Patrick Mahomes. The 28-year-old already has two Super Bowl MVP awards to his name and he is aiming to become just the third player to claim the accolade three or more times after Tom Brady (5 times) and Joe Montana (3 times)

Super Bowl betting explained

Betting on the Super Bowl is very different to betting on most sporting events here in the UK and below you’ll find some of the more popular betting terms and markets when betting on events such as the Super Bowl.

  • Super Bowl Betting Line: This is basically like picking the winner of the Super Bowl. You're just saying which team you think will come out on top.
  • NFL Spread: If you're from the UK, think of this as the handicap. The favourites might start the game with a points handicap, while the underdogs get a points advantage. It's not just about who wins but by how much.
  • Super Bowl Total Points: Have you ever wondered how many points both teams will score? You can bet on whether it'll be over or under a certain amount.
  • NFL Quarter Betting: Fancy a smaller-scale bet? You can focus on specific quarters of the game. Bet on which team will dominate a quarter, how many points will be scored, or if there'll be a touchdown in that period.
  • Super Bowl Half Betting: You may be more interested in just the first or second half of the game. There are specific betting options tailored for each half.

So, whether you're a seasoned bettor or just dipping your toes into the world of Super Bowl wagering, there's something for everyone to enjoy!

Everything you need to know about the Super Bowl

The Super Bowl is set to be played in the west of the USA for a third successive year following on from Inglewood, California and Glendale Arizona. This year’s Super Bowl is a repeat of Super Bowl LIV. In February 2020, Kansas City Chiefs defeated San Francisco 49ers 31-20 at the Hard Rock Stadium in Florida to win their first Super Bowl Championship in fifty years. The last of the 49ers’ five wins came back in January 1995.

Action will get underway in the UK at 23:30 PM. In the UK, you can watch live coverage of Super Bowl LVIII on ITV1, Sky Sports Main Event or Sky Sports NFL, alternatively you can stream via YouTube or DAZN.

The half-time show will be performed by R&B star Usher, with details about any potential supporting acts kept under wraps. The ‘Queen of Country’, Reba McEntire is set to sing the pre-match national anthem.
