As we look ahead to night three, we will bring the latest Premier League of Darts odds from tournament sponsors, BetMGM
The Premier League of Darts reaches night three this week with Glasgow's OVO Hydro hosting the Thursday’s action. Statistically, night two in Berlin saw real improvement compared to the tournament’s opening night in Cardiff with a higher average score, more 180s recorded and a considerably better highest checkout. We’re now hopeful of seeing them kick on again in Glasgow. As we look ahead to night three, we will bring the latest Premier League of Darts odds from tournament sponsors, BetMGM.
Quarter-Final Fixtures
Rob Cross v Michael Smith
The Premier League’s early front-runner kicks off night three as league leader, Michael Smith takes on Rob Cross in the opening quarter-final match. Michael Smith was a winner in Cardiff before being edged out by Michael van Gerwen in the first semi-final in Berlin last week. Rob Cross made the semi-final in Cardiff but defeating an out-of-form Peter Wright is no real achievement. Cross’ participation in the recent Players Championship saw him dumped out in round two by world number 66, Niels Zonneveld. We’re not quite sure that Cross will be at the level required to overcome Michael Smith in Glasgow.
Michael van Gerwen v Peter Wright
Peter Wright is one of only two players yet to record a win in this year’s Premier League of Darts and the home favourite will hope that the crowd can lift him when he meets defending champion, Michael van Gerwen. However, MVG looked in top form in Berlin last week and another Premier League semi-final appearance should be on the cards.
Nathan Aspinall v Luke Humphries
World number one, Luke Humphries endured a torrid time in the Players Championship earlier this week, going down to a shock 6-0 second-round defeat to world number 64, Ian White. The reigning world champion has been below-par since winning at Alexandra Palace in January and his only Premier League win so far came against fellow struggler, Peter Wright. However, on Thursday he will be expected to overturn Nathan Aspinall. Aspinall is winless in the PRemier League after the first two weeks and is struggling for form generally at the moment. Aspinall made the last-32 of the Players Championship in Wigan but was defeated by Paul Krohne.
Gerwyn Price v Luke Littler
Teen sensation, Luke Littler is one of only two players yet to suffer a quarter-final defeat in this year’s Premier League and he’s one of the competition’s most in-form players. As he continues to prove his World Championship performance was no fluke, Littler produced a nine-darter en route to winning on his Players Championship debut in Wigan on Monday.
Gerwyn Price was trailing Brendan Dolan 4-2 when he controversially withdrew from Monday’s tournament. The Welshman took to social media to cite his reasons for forfeiting the match.
In a post that has since been deleted, Price said, “Absolutely pathetic conditions, travel all the way to Wigan to play in a professional game and we have to play in less than amateur conditions.”
Price continued, “Never given a game up. That’s me out of tomorrow, gutted because my game was really good today and I rely on these events so much.”
In the Premier League, Gerwyn Price has been defeated by Michael Smith in successive weeks but cannot meet the world number three until the final in Glasgow. Luke Littler has shown obvious progression in his first two weeks; the 17-year-old reached the semi-final on night one where he was also eliminated by Michael Smith. Last week in Berlin, Littler progressed to the final, losing 6-5 to Michael van Gerwen.
