Form
Newcastle United are rapidly turning into the Premier League’s great entertainers with at least four goals scored in each of their past six league games. Eddie Howe’s side head into the weekend in 7th position with 36 points from their 24 league games so far. Last weekend Newcastle United earned a much-needed 3-2 win away at Nottingham Forest whilst their most recent home league game ended in a thrilling 4-4 draw against Luton Town.
Saturday’s visitors, AFC Bournemouth are 13th in the Premier League with 27 points from 23 matches. AFC Bournemouth are now winless in five Premier League matches having lost 3-1 away at Fulham last weekend.
Newcastle United v AFC Bournemouth: head-to-head
AFC Bournemouth are unbeaten in three league games against Saturday’s hosts and won the reverse fixture at the Vitality Stadium with a Dominic Solanke brace enough to seal a 2-0 win back in November. Last season’s St James Park fixture between Newcastle United and AFC Bournemouth ended in a 1-1 draw.
Betting tips
Current form suggests that a home win is a formality but Eddie Howe does not have a great record against his former side and although we cannot tip it with too much conviction, a draw looks the best value at 3/1.
We are far more confident in anticipating a high number of goals at St James Park on Saturday and both teams to score looks a shrewd bet at 19/40. There hasn’t been a clean sheet kept in any league game at St James Park since December whilst only Sheffield United have conceded more goals away from home in the league this season than AFC Bournemouth. Over 2.5 match goals is our bet of the day at 9/20.
Only Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah have scored more league goals than Dominic Solanke this season and given that the Bournemouth forward scored twice in the reverse fixture he will no doubt be a popular selection in the weekend’s goalscorer markets. Solanke is priced at 6/5 to score at any time or 9/2 to score the game’s opening goal.
Picking a goal scorer for Newcastle United isn’t quite as straightforward. Top goalscorer, Alexander Isak misses out through injury whilst former Bournemouth forward, Callum Wilson is a major fitness doubt. In the absence of Isak and Wilson, Anthony Gordon could lead the line for the hosts on Saturday which makes his 2/1 any time scorer price look extremely generous.
