MetLife Stadium To Host 2026 FIFA World Cup Final
There are 16 venues in all set to stage matches throughout the World Cup but it is the home of NFL sides New York Giants and New York Jets that has been selected to host the final itself
FIFAโs recent schedule announcement program saw confirmation that the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey will host the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. There are 16 venues in all set to stage matches throughout the World Cup but it is the home of NFL sides New York Giants and New York Jets that has been selected to host the final itself.
The state-of-the-art stadium is one of the most expensive sports venues in the world with a total construction cost of $1.6bn. The MetLife Stadium boasts a total capacity of 82,500 and will stage a total of eight matches across the 2026 tournament. In addition to the final, five group games, one round of 32 match and one round of 16 match will be played at the venue.
The 16 venues set to host matches at the 2026 FIFA World Cup are located across the USA, Canada and Mexico. 11 host venues are located in the USA but none of the stadiums used in the 1994 FIFA World Cup will be used in 2026. Every match from the quarter-final onwards will be staged in the USA with the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami Gardens selected to host the third place play-off whilst the two semi-final matches will take place at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington and the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
Mexico City To Kick Off The Tournament
The opening game of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will be staged at a venue synonymous with the tournament as co-hosts Mexico kick off the tournament on June 11th at the iconic Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The Azteca is one of only two stadiums to host two FIFA World Cup finals with the 1970 and 1986 finals played there. The venue was also the scene of the infamous โHand of Godโ goal during the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
The USA and Canada begin their respective World Cup campaigns on June 12th. The USA will play their opening game at the So-Fi Stadium in Los Angeles whilst Canada begin at the BMO Field in Toronto.
World Cup Expansion
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be the biggest to date in terms of duration and participants. A record 48 nations will head to North America in two years time but as of yet only the three host nations are assured of a spot at the tournament. The 39-day tournament concludes on July 19th 2026 and below youโll find a comprehensive list of venues chosen for the 2026 FIFA World Cup schedule as well as the latest outright odds courtesy of our partners at Interbet.
