The Premier League of Darts continues on Thursday evening with the action on night four coming from the Utilita Arena in Newcastle. Michael van Gerwen moved to the top of the league table in Glasgow last week and the Dutchman will be full of confidence ahead of the trip to the North East. Here at betting.bet we’ll preview the night’s action, bringing outright odds as well as odds for each of the four quarter-finals with all prices coming courtesy of tournament sponsors, BetMGM.
Michael Smith v Nathan Aspinall
Nathan Aspinall is one of two players yet to register a win after three weeks of Premier League action. The world number four has been below par in recent weeks and was defeated by Florian Hempel in the second round of the Players Championship 4 in his last match.
Opponent, Michael Smith suffered a shock quarter-final loss against Rob Cross in Glasgow but the former world champion still sits second overall and should ease into a third semi-final in four weeks.
Betting.Bet Prediction: Michael Smith - 13/20
Rob Cross v Luke Humphries
Rob Cross got off the mark in Glasgow last week, beating Michael Smith 6-4 in the night’s opening match but he has been underwhelming since, losing in round one of the Players Championship 3 and 4.
World number one, Luke Humphries showed signs of rediscovering his best form last week as he reached the final in Glasgow thanks to wins over Nathan Aspinall and Gerwyn Price. Humphries lost the final to Michael van Gerwen but he’s our pick in the second quarter-final.
Betting.Bet Prediction: Luke Humphries - 12/25
Peter Wright v Luke Littler
Along with Nathan Aspinall, Peter Wright is one of only two players yet to get off the mark in the Premier League this year yet we can make a solid case for ‘Snakebite’ against the sport’s rising star, Luke Littler.
Peter Wright showed signs of real improvement in the Players Championship over the past week. In Players Championship 3, Wright reached the quarter-finals before wins over Dave Chisnall and Scott Williams saw him make the Players Championship 4 semi-final.
Luke Littler lost in round one of the Players Championship 4 and was also a losing quarter-finalist in the Premier League in Glasgow last week. Whilst we expect the 17-year-old to be right in the mix for a play-off spot, we’re tipping him to lose a second successive Premier League quarter-final match.
Betting.Bet Prediction: Peter Wright - 29/10
Gerwyn Price v Michael van Gerwen
The final quarter-final match of the evening is arguably the toughest to call. Michael van Gerwen tops the Premier League table thanks to back-to-back wins in Berlin and Glasgow however, the Dutchman suffered a 6-0 whitewash against Chris Dobey in the Players Championship on Tuesday.
Gerwyn Price suffered a surprise Players Championship defeat against world number 91, Christian Perez but the Welshman rarely performs at his best in the Players Championship. MVG edges head-to-head matches against Gerwyn Price and we’re going to give the final semi-final spot to the Dutchman.
Betting.Bet Prediction: Michael van Gerwen - 7/10
