Euro 2024 Play-Offs: Wales v Finland - Match Preview & Odds

Wales play their crucial Euro 2024 play-off semi-final on Thursday as Robert Page’s side take on Finland in Cardiff. Both nations are now just 180 minutes away from qualifying for this summer’s European Championships and ahead of their crucial play-off tie, here at betting.bet we will provide the latest team news and expert betting tips as well as the very best free bet offers and match odds from our betting partners at Ladbrokes.

Road to the play-offs

Both Wales and Finland qualified for the play-offs by virtue of their recent performances in the UEFA Nations League. In qualification for Euro 2024, Wales finished third in Group D behind Turkey and Croatia. Finland were third in Group H behind Denmark and Slovenia.

Wales team news

Wales captain, Aaron Ramsey earned a shock call-up to the squad despite missing the bulk of 2024 through injury. Whilst in the squad, Ramsey may have to settle for a place on the bench with both Ethan Ampadu and Jordan James impressing in recent internationals. Ampadu is set to earn his 50th Wales cap on Thursday evening.

Up front, Robert Page has a real selection dilemma. Kieffer Moore is likely to be selected as the focal point of the Welsh forward line but it’s then a case of any three from four for the other attacking spots. Dan James, David Brooks, Harry Wilson and Brennan Johnson are all in contention to start.

What awaits the winners?

The winner of Thursday’s play-off semi-final at the Cardiff City Stadium will meet either Poland or Estonia in the final at the same venue next Wednesday. The winner of play-off A will join Netherlands, Austria and France in Group D of this summer’s European Championships.

Betting tips

Home advantage could be key for Wales on Thursday as they look to book their place at a third straight European Championships. Wales have lost one of their last six home internationals. Their shock 4-2 defeat at home to Armenia last June was the first qualifier they’ve lost at home since 2017. Wales to win in 90 minutes is 4/5. Given what’s at stake, we are expecting a cagey affair on Thursday, therefore under 2.5 match goals looks a sensible option at a price of 1/2.

Harry Wilson was Wales’ top scorer in qualifying with three goals and the Fulham midfielder is likely to be on set-piece duty on Thursday so don’t disregard Wilson in the goalscorer markets. However, preference is for Kieffer Moore to be Wales’ match winner. Moore is the only forward almost assured of a start and his return of 12 goals in 39 internationals is a solid return. Moore has impressed since signing for Sky Bet Championship promotion hopefuls, Ipswich Town on loan in January, scoring six in ten and at 9/5 he is superb value to score at any time.
