Manchester United’s new hierarchy remain unconvinced by current manager, Erik ten Hag and Southgate could be tempted to switch St George’s Park for Old Trafford
As the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era begins to take shape at Manchester United, The Red Devils have been linked with a move for England manager, Gareth Southgate. Manchester United’s new hierarchy remain unconvinced by current manager, Erik ten Hag and Southgate could be tempted to switch St George’s Park for Old Trafford.
Erik ten Hag is 5/1 to be the next Premier League manager to leave but the fact that they now look incredibly unlikely to make the top four this season, his position may become untenable. Manchester United are nine points adrift of Aston Villa in fourth and are currently 9/1 with Betfair to finish in the top four.
Gareth Southgate has refused to extend his current England contract which now has less than a year to run and there is a belief that he’ll step down after Euro 2024 regardless of England’s performance at the tournament.
Newcastle United’s Sporting Director, Dan Ashworth looks set to join Manchester United once an agreement can be made between the clubs and his relationship with Southgate could prove key in their efforts to lure Southgate away from his job with the England national team.
For now, Gareth Southgate’s focus remains the upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Belgium and this summer’s European Championships but the 53-year-old is just 5/2 with Betfair to be named as Manchester United’s next head coach.
Southgate’s Possible Successor At England
If Gareth Southgate does make a return to club football, who is next in line for the top job with the England national team? The Three Lions could make a move for out-of-work former Chelsea boss, Graham Potter and he is the current market leader to be named as the next England manager.
