England host Brazil in an international friendly at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. The fixture is far more than just a glamour tie against the five-time world champions, Saturday signifies the next step in preparing for this summer’s European Championships. England are amongst the favourites to win Euro 2024 and as we look ahead to the first of two England international friendly matches taking place this weekend, here at betting.bet you’ll find the latest team news and betting tips as well as the latest pre-match odds and free bet offers from our betting partners at Ladbrokes.
Team News
England were handed a blow on Thursday after Arsenal forward, Bukayo Saka withdrew from the Three Lions squad and he could be followed by captain, Harry Kane. England’s all-time record goalscorer along with midfielder, Jordan Henderson did not train on Friday morning and now look unlikely to feature.
Neymar is the most notable absentee from the Brazil squad but there are still plenty of household names set to line up for the visitors on Saturday. There are no fewer than six England-based players in the Brazil squad whilst Saturday may give many fans a first look at Real Madrid-bound starlet, Endrick.
Form
Brazil’s post-World Cup form has been poor, winning just three of nine internationals in 2023. Brazil head to Wembley on the back of three straight losses to Uruguay (2-0), Colombia (2-1) and Argentina (1-0). Dorival Junior takes charge of the national team for the first time since being announced as the new head coach in January.
In contrast, England are unbeaten since the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Gareth Southgate’s side won eight and drew two of the ten internationals played in 2023. England have not lost at Wembley Stadium since losing a behind closed doors Nations League match in October 2020.
Betting Tips
The likely absence of Harry Kane could open the door for the likes of Ollie Watkins and Ivan Toney to stake a claim for a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad. Having scored 16 times already in the Premier League this season, Watkins is most likely to be given the nod on Saturday and he could provide real value at 8/5 to score at any time or 4/1 to score first.
There should be a familiar face leading the line for Brazil with Spurs forward, Richarlison set to get the nod. A total of 20 goals in 48 internationals is a solid return and he will hope to get one over former Everton teammate, Jordan Pickford in the England goal. Richarlison is 16/5 to score at any time.
There will be plenty of attacking talent on display on Friday including the likes of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford for England and Vinicius Jr, Rodrygo and Lucas Paqueta for Brazil. Goals seem inevitable at Wembley Stadium and both teams to score looks nailed on at 5/6. Additionally, over 2.5 match goals is 19/20.
