Premier League of Darts: Night Nine (Belfast)

The Premier League of Darts has now passed the midway point and on Thursday evening Belfast’s SSE Arena will host night nine of the competition. World number one, Luke Humphries is the league’s new leader and he’ll kick off Thursday evening against Luke Littler. Here at betting.bet we’ll look ahead to this week’s quarter-finals, bringing the latest odds from tournament sponsors, BetMGM.

Luke Humphries v Luke Littler

In a repeat of the World Championships final, Luke Humphries and Luke Littler can get night nine off to a perfect start. World number one, Humphries has won outright in each of the past three weeks to leapfrog Michael van Gerwen at the Premier League’s summit. Humphries’ three matches in Dublin last week produced averages of 106.09, 104.87 and 105.53.

However, these two have met twice in the Premier League this year and it is Littler that has emerged victorious on both occasions. Luke Littler slipped out of the top four last week for the first time all year having lost just a second quarter-final match in eight. We’re backing Luke Littler to progress to the semi-final at least as he goes in search of that elusive first overall night win in the Premier League.

Predicted Winner: Luke Littler

Michael Smith v Michael van Gerwen

Michael van Gerwen has gone from one extreme to the other in the Premier League. The Dutchman looked unbeatable as he reeled off three straight wins between nights two and four however he has proceeded to lose all four quarter-final matches since.

Michael Smith has been a losing finalist in two of the past three weeks but now comes up against an MVG that has already beaten twice in the Premier League this year.

Predicted Winner: Michael van Gerwen

Nathan Aspinall v Gerwyn Price

Nathan Aspinall’s Premier League has been a tale of two halves so far. Having kicked off the tournament with three straight quarter-final losses, Aspinal has reached at least the semi-final in four of the past five weeks.

This week’s opponent, Gerwyn Price seems to have gone off the boil in recent weeks but aside from his below-par showing in Exeter on night five, Prie has played well even in defeat. The Welshman will take confidence from his first quarter-final in five weeks last week and he could repeat his night one win over Nathan Aspinall in Belfast.

Predicted Winner: Gerwyn Price

Rob Cross v Peter Wright

Peter Wright’s resurgence was short-lived after he was swept aside with ease in last week’s quarter-final. Snakebite has now lost in seven of his eight quarter-final matches and is well adrift at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Rob Cross has been unlucky when coming up short against an in-form Nathan Aspinall in four of the past five game weeks whilst in Brighton three weeks ago, Rob Cross lost a high-quality semi-final match against Luke Humphries with the second highest losing average (108) seen in this year’s tournament.

Predicted Winner: Rob Cross
