Corach Ramble Prepared to Defend its Title in the 2024 Grand National

Corach Rambler Prepared to Defend Title in the 2024 Grand National

will we see a repeat of last year's performance from the Lucinda Russell yard?

Lucinda Russell has told of how winning the Aintree Grand National is "incredibly addictive," as she aims to set a new record for female trainers in the 2024 renewal.

After her horse Corach Rambler's victory in 2023, following One For Arthur's win in 2017, Russell is keen to surpass Jenny Pitman's two wins.

Pitman previously triumphed with Corbiere in 1983 and Royal Athlete in 1995. Corach Rambler, assigned a rating of 159 and a weight of 11st 2lb, is prepared to defend his title, with Russell affirming, "I'd say that's in line with our expectations."

She further shared her enthusiasm: "Winning the National is incredibly addictive. It's fabulous the first time, and by the second, you're already aiming for a third, caught in the thrill of it!"

Peter Scudamore, Russell's partner and assistant trainer, also spoke highly of Corach Rambler, noting his affinity for Aintree and his form peaking around this time. The horse's journey includes a win at the Ultima Handicap Chase at Cheltenham in March 2023 and a commendable performance in the Cheltenham Gold Cup in March 2024.

Reflecting on the Gold Cup, Russell said, "I'm absolutely over the moon...He's a racehorse and loves his job...To be third in the Gold Cup is fantastic, and it's heartwarming how much he's appreciated here. He's the horse of a lifetime, and his recent run was the perfect Grand National trial. I'm so proud of him."
