On 8th June, Savannah Marshall, the reigning super-middleweight boxing world champion, is set to embark on her first venture into mixed martial arts (MMA). This debit fight will take place in Newcastle, UK.
Marshall, hailing from Britain, will compete under the banner of the Professional Fighters League (PFL) against a yet-to-be-revealed fighter.
Claressa Shields, the American boxing sensation and the sole athlete to secure a victory over the 32-year-old Marshall in professional boxing, is also on the PFL roster.
Peter Murray, the CEO of PFL, stated:
"The two are on a collision course for a rematch wearing 4oz gloves and settling the score in the PFL."
In 2023, Marshall, a champion in two boxing divisions, committed to a multi-year contract with the PFL.
Having a storied rivalry that dates back to their amateur days, Marshall and Shields are no strangers to competition.
In a landmark bout for the undisputed middleweight boxing crown in London in October 2022, Shields emerged victorious over Marshall by points decision.
The 29-year-old Michigan native boasts an impeccable record in professional boxing and has a mixed record in MMA, with one defeat and two victories.
