As we head into the final couple of months of the domestic season, the title races in each of English football’s top four divisions look set to go down to the wire. Here at betting.bet we’ll take a look at the sides still in contention to win their respective leagues, including upcoming fixtures and the latest outright odds courtesy of our betting partners at William Hill.
Premier League
There are seven games to play in the Premier League and just a single point separates the top three sides. Arsenal’s 3-0 win away at Brighton & Hove Albion saw them move to the top of the league as they eye a first Premier League title in 20 years. The Gunners topped the table for most of last season before succumbing to the pressure of Manchester City in the final few weeks. The addition of Declan Rice last summer was a shrewd acquisition whilst Kai Havertz is showing signs of justifying his hefty price tag.
As they did twelve months ago, Manchester City are waiting to pounce on any Arsenal slipup. Last season’s treble winners are still in contention for all three trophies once more. Will the rigours of another treble bid prove costly in Manchester City’s quest for a record-breaking fourth straight Premier League title?
Jurgen Klopp is set to leave Liverpool in the summer and the German is hoping to bow out by winning a second Premier League title. The Reds endured a tough 2022/23 campaign and finished 22 points off champions, Manchester City in fifth position. Playing on a Thursday in the Europa League rather than the Champions League’s traditional Tuesday and Wednesday slots means that Liverpool will have a shorter turnaround between matches. How will the Thursday/Sunday schedule affect their chances?

Championship
Whilst Southampton cannot be completely disregarded with a couple of games in hand, a return of just one point from their last three matches has seen The Saints drop out of the Championship title race. This leaves three teams fighting it out for two automatic promotion spots. Leicester City looked to be running away with the title before a blip throughout February and March has seen them pulled back into a three-way title race with Leeds United and Ipswich Town.
Ipswich Town are chasing back-to-back promotions having finished second in League One last season and the Tractor Boys are becoming the division’s great entertainers with their 41 league games so far producing more goals (136) than matches featuring any other side in the Championship.
Leeds United have won just one of their past three matches but cannot be written off in their efforts to clinch an immediate return to the top flight. Manager, Daniel Farke was a two-time Championship title winner with Norwich City.

League One
Portsmouth look set to secure a return to the Championship having taken 90 points from their 42 matches so far. However, the battle for the second automatic promotion spot could go down to the final weekend. Derby County currently sit second in League One with 82 points from their 42 matches but a run of one win in three matches has opened the door to both Bolton Wanderers and Peterborough United.
Bolton Wanderers are one point behind Derby County but their 1-0 defeat when the sides met three weeks ago may prove costly. Two of their final four fixtures come against sides that currently occupy a top-four spot.
Peterborough United’s EFL Trophy-winning exploits mean that they head into the final weeks of the season with two games in hand over Derby County and Bolton Wanderers. Back-to-back home defeats to Portsmouth and Carlisle United at the end of March dented their promotion hopes but The Posh are by no means out of the race for second place.

League Two
The topsy-turvy promotion race in League Two has taken another twist in recent weeks as back-to-back losses have seen Mansfield Town drop from first place down to fourth and out of the automatic promotion places. Mansfield Town now have 73 points from 41 matches, one fewer than MK Dons in third albeit MK Dons have played 43 matches.
Stockport County are the new league leaders with four straight wins moving them onto 80 points from their 41 matches. The Hatters are the most in-form team in the league and have games in hand over the sides in second and third; it now seems when rather than if they can clinch a second promotion in three seasons.
Wrexham are eyeing back-to-back promotions and look well-placed to do so with 76 points from their 42 matches, enough to see them sit second in League Two. Wrexham’s 2-0 win at home to Mansfield Town at the end of March seems like it may have been a sliding doors moment for both clubs and with three of Wrexham’s last four fixtures set to be played at the Racecourse Ground, promotion looks extremely likely.
