Fury Road, Classic Getaway, Bronn and Full Back out!
Fury Road stood out as the most favoured horse not confirmed for Saturday's Randox Grand National at Aintree during the confirmation stage on Monday.
Classic Getaway, Bronn, and Full Back were also withdrawn, while Empire Steel and Fantastic Lady, initially considered for the Topham, did not make the cut alongside Angels Dawn.
Glengouly, Galia Des Liteaux, and Panda Boy are set to participate, holding their National mark of 146 steady since the initial weight announcement in February, securing positions 30-32.
Eklat De Rire, Chambard and Kitty’s Light, known for their victories in the Scottish Grand National and the bet365 Gold Cup last season, are all marked at the same National level but have seen a 1lb reduction in their official ratings since the weights were disclosed.
The lineup will be finalised at 10am on Thursday, with no reserve horses this year, meaning a random draw will determine which two among these three will occupy the last two slots if the top 32 are declared.
This year marks the first time the number of participants has been limited to 34, aiming to enhance safety across the National fences.
Notables like last year’s victor Corach Rambler, Vanillier who was second last year, 2023 Irish Grand National winner I Am Maximus, and the up-and-coming novice Meetingofthewaters, both under the guidance of Willie Mullins and owned by JP McManus, are still in the running.
Who Does Gordon Elliot Have in the Mix?
Gordon Elliott is set to have nine horses in the race, with notable entries including top-weighted Conflated, three-time Cheltenham Festival victor Delta Work, and 2021 Savills Chase winner Galvin, although there are concerns about the suitability of the soft, heavy in places ground for the latter and Mullins-trained Stattler, owned by Ronnie Bartlett.
Mullins' Runners
Mullins has eight horses among the top 34, with Midlands Grand National second-placer Mr Incredible and Cotswold Chase winner Capodanno as part of his lineup.
The British contingent guaranteed a spot includes six horses, with 5-1 favourite Corach Rambler leading the home challenge, alongside Welsh Grand National victor Nassalam, Eldorado Allen, Latenightpass, Mac Tottie, and Galia Des Liteaux.
Others like Malina Girl and Desertmore House remain below the qualification line, needing withdrawals to secure a place in the final field.
