Masters Day One Delayed Due to Thunderstorms

Masters Day One Delayed Due to Thunderstorms

The first swings will now take place at 1pm, rather than 8am UK time.

Thunderstorms at Augusta National have led to a delay in the commencement of the Masters' opening round on Thursday.

The first swings, originally scheduled for 08:00 local time (13:00 UK Time), have been postponed due to intense rain and winds reaching 40-45mph.

The tournament is now expected to kick off at 10:30 (15:30 UK Time) following the honorary tee shots by legendary champions Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, and Tom Watson.

The weather outlook for Friday through Sunday appears more favourable. American golfer Luke List, who was set to tee off at 08:36 (13:36 UK Time) and was informed of the possible delay on Wednesday, remarked on the uncontrollable nature of the weather and its potential impact.

Sergio Garcia, the 2017 Masters champion, anticipated that the harsh weather conditions would greatly challenge the players' precision on the course.

"On a course like this, where you have to be so precise in every single shot that you hit, when you play with that amount of wind, it becomes very, very challenging," he commented.
