Manchester City host Real Madrid on Wednesday evening in the crucial second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final tie. As we look ahead to what promises to be a hugely competitive fixture at the Etihad Stadium, here at betting.bet you’ll find the latest team news, match insights and expert betting tips as well as the latest free bet offers and match odds from our partners at Ladbrokes.
First Leg Recap
This quarter-final tie is evenly poised going into Wednesday’s second leg after the sides shared an entertaining 3-3 draw at the Santiago Bernabeu just over a week ago. In a topsy-turvy encounter, Manchester City took the lead after just two minutes thanks to a Bernardo Silva free-kick. Real Madrid hit back to lead with less than 15 minutes on the clock with Ruben Dias deflecting a Eduardo Camavinga strike into his own net before Rodrygo got lucky with a deflection just two minutes later.
In the second half, the visitors were back in the lead through goals for Phil Foden and Josko Gvardiol before being pegged back before a 79th minute strike by Federico Valverde earned the hosts a share of the spoils.
Form
Domestically, both Real Madrid and Manchester City took major strides towards another league title at the weekend. Real Madrid’s win at Mallorca on Saturday maintained their eight-point lead over Barcelona in La Liga whilst in the Premier League, a comfortable 5-1 win for Manchester City coupled with defeats for both Arsenal and Liverpool have left Manchester City in the driving seat for a fourth straight league title.
Manchester City v Real Madrid: Head-to-Head
Manchester City have never lost at home to Real Madrid, winning two and drawing two of their previous four matches at the Etihad. The two sides met at the semi-final stage of last year’s Champions League and after once again playing out an entertaining draw at the Bernabeu, Manchester City charged to a 4-0 second leg victory in Manchester.
Betting Tips
Bernardo Silva has stepped up in the big games on so many occasions for Manchester City and not only did the Portuguese international open the scoring in the first leg two weeks ago but he also netted City’s first two goals in last season’s 4-0 thrashing of Real Madrid. Bernardo Silva is excellent value at 17/2 to score first and certainly worth consideration at 10/3 to score at any time on Wednesday.
Haaland has already netted six times in the Champions League this season and despite failing to score in three games against Real Madrid. Meanwhile, Vinicius Junior has been a consistent source of goals for Real Madrid this season and the Brazilian has netted four goals in Real Madrid’s last three away matches.
Both players will attract plenty of support in the various goalscorer markets and below you will find the latest football betting odds on many of these markets worth consideration.
