The 25-year-old American boxing sensation previously surprised many with his 2020 interview revelation that he planned to exit the sport at the young age of 26. Now, as that age approaches with his birthday in August just four months away, Garcia, on the verge of facing Devin Haney on Saturday night, has reversed his earlier decision. The online boxing betting community is eager to see how Saturday night pans out. Explaining his u-turn he said:
"No, no, things have changed in my mind," Garcia stated.
"But I think I'll be done by 30. "I'll make money regardless, even if I wasn't in boxing.
"Even if I retired today I would still make a million dollars sooner or later.
"So to me money's not really a motivation. I've always had money, money chases me.
“As a kid I was obviously broke, but when you're not scared of money, money runs to you.
"I don't get scared of money, I'm not worried about money, it just comes to me.
"So I'm gonna box because I have a bigger purpose in boxing and what it does for my purpose in life.
"I'm gonna continue to do it, that's where I'm at."
Over the next four years until his newly set retirement age, Garcia aims to defeat four notable opponents. Listing his targets, Garcia mentioned:
"Teofimo Lopez, Shakur Stevenson and the Gervonta Davis rematch.
"But I also wanna do Sean O'Malley as a crossover MMA thing.
"That would break UFC PPV records.
"It is gonna be in the cage, there's no other way I would do it other than me in the cage going against Sean O'Malley and ripping off his head.
