Guided by Hollie Doyle, Rolica overcame Tom Marquand's co-favourite Vicario to secure the win.
Rated 9-2 in the Rossdales Maiden Fillies’ Stakes, Rolica, a daughter of Lope De Vega, bounced back from a previous defeat as a favourite at Nottingham, showing improved form in her first race as a three-year-old. Guided by Hollie Doyle, Rolica overcame Tom Marquand's co-favourite Vicario to secure the win.
To the surprise of both horse racing betting lovers and Rolica's owners, she now looks like a great option to back in the 1000 Guineas next month. Chapple-Hyam expressed confidence bolstered by her other horse, Mallavelly, who finished second in a mile maiden the day before, and saw this performance as a confirmation of Rolica's potential.
"If Mr. Harris (Peter, the owner) agrees, I'd like her to run in the Guineas. She's shown significant improvement since her third-place finish in a tough race at Nottingham last year," Chapple-Hyam noted.
Meanwhile, although Tom Marquand didn't win with Vicario, he celebrated a victory with Woodhay Wonder in the bet365 Handicap. This marked the third consecutive win for Tom Ward’s filly, who dominated the six-furlong race from the outset.
Marquand commented on Woodhay Wonder’s performance, saying:
"She’s been fantastic, really fun to work with, and the team has done a great job preparing her for a strong start this season."
The day concluded with Karl Burke’s Poet Master winning the Consign With The National Stud Handicap as the 100-30 favorite, marking his fourth win in five starts. Looking ahead, Burke sees potential for Poet Master in higher-tier races and plans to enter him in the Listed Pertemps Network Spring Trophy Stakes at Haydock, noting, "Haydock’s level track is ideal for him; it plays to his strengths as a front-runner."
