Form

Brighton & Hove Albion occupy a top ten position in the Premier League despite failing to win any of their last four league games. The Seagulls lost 3-0 to Arsenal in their last home league game whilst most recently they were held to a 1-1 draw away at Burnley.

Premier League title challengers, Manchester City are still in contention for a domestic double having progressed to the FA Cup final with a 1-0 win over Chelsea at Wembley Stadium on Saturday. Pep Guardiola’s side have taken 73 points from 32 matches in the Premier League and remain unbeaten in all competitions in 29 matches.

It’s almost two weeks since Manchester City’s last Premier League game; a 5-1 win at home to Luton Town. Their most recent away league game ended in a 4-2 win at Crystal Palace.

Team News

Haaland still absent for Manchester City
Haaland still absent for Manchester City

Manchester City’s chance of success at the Amex have been dealt a blow with the news that top scorer, Erling Haaland will not feature on Thursday. However, Haaland aside, Manchester City should be back to full strength with both Phil Foden and John Stones tipped to return to the starting XI.

Hosts, Brighton & Hove Albion have been dealt a major injury blow of their own with reports that a calf injury is likely to keep full-back, Pervis Estipinan out for the rest of the season. The Seagulls are already without Evan Ferguson, Kaoru Mitoma, Solly March, Billy Gilmour and Jack Hinshelwood.

Brighton & Hove Albion v Manchester City: Head-to-Head

Brighton & Hove Albion and Manchester City have met on thirteen previous occasions in the Premier League and Manchester City have won eleven. Brighton’s only Premier League win against Thursday’s visitors came at the Amex in May 2021.

The reverse fixture at the Etihad Stadium in October produced a 2-1 win for Manchester City with goals from Julian Alvarez and Erling Haaland giving Manchester City a two-goal lead before Ansu Fati pulled a goal back late in the second half. The corresponding fixture at the Amex last season ended all-square at 1-1 with Julio Enciso cancelling out Phil Foden’s opener.

Betting Tips

The absence of Erling Haaland does leave the goal scorer markets wide open. Phil Foden has netted 14 goals in the Premier League this season and scored a hat-trick at home to Aston Villa in the last league match in which he appeared. Foden is an obvious choice in the goalscorer markets whilst Haaland’s likely replacement, Julian Alvarez opened the scoring in the reverse fixture and is a real danger. Here are a couple of goalscorer markets featuring both Foden and Alvarez.

Brighton & Hove Albion have failed to score more than one goal in ten straight matches in all competitions and have fired a blank in half of those matches. The Seagulls  may find goals hard to come by against a Manchester City side that has conceded just 32 goals in the league all season. Manchester City to win to nil looks real value at 13/8.
