Previously, Slot was considered for the Leeds United position after they dismissed Jesse Marsch in February 2023. However, he later withdrew from consideration for the Tottenham Hotspur role, which was subsequently filled by Ange Postecoglou.
Slot, who recently extended his contract with Feyenoord through 2026, has expressed his ambitions beyond the Dutch league. He stated:
"The next step will not be another club in Holland. If that is the next step, I’ve failed completely in the upcoming few years. A normal next step would be to go abroad and I’ve always said that the best league in the world is the Premier League."
Liverpool finds Slot's offensive coaching style and his talent for developing players particularly appealing.
Slot's coaching credentials were established at AZ Alkmaar before he became the head coach of Feyenoord in December 2020. As a player, he made significant contributions in the Netherlands, with over 100 appearances for both FC Zwolle and NAC Breda.
