Peter Wright v Michael Smith

Peter Wright’s Premier League nightmare is almost over as Snakebite heads up to Aberdeen with just four points to his name in this year’s tournament. Wright lost 6-3 in last week’s quarter-final to Michael van Gerwen and has now lost four straight quarter-final matches.

Michael Smith edged out Peter Wright to win 6-5 when the players met on night five but Smith has since kicked on to sit just four points adrift of the top four. Michael Smith will be disappointed to have lost to Rob Cross in the quarter-final last week and needs to bounce back if he’s to reach the play-offs later this month.

Prediction: Michael Smith

Luke Littler v Nathan Aspinall

In a repeat of one of last week’s semi-finals, Premier League leader, Luke Littler will take on Nathan Aspinall in Aberdeen this week. Sitting first and third, both players are on course to play in the play-offs but will want to maintain the momentum built up in recent weeks. Littler has made the final in the four of the last five weeks, winning three times whilst Nathan Aspinall claimed his second overall night win in Rotterdam two weeks ago.

With both players regularly featuring in the latter stages of competition, Littler and Aspinal have already met on five occasions in the Premier League. Luke Littler has won four of those meetings including each of the past three.

Aspinall threw away a 5-1 lead to lose 6-5 to Luke Littler in last week’s semi-final but we’re not expecting him to be quite so complacent this time around.

Prediction: Nathan Aspinall

Michael van Gerwen v Rob Cross

Rob Cross put in an excellent performance in Liverpool last week to defeat Michael van Gerwen 6-2 in the semi-final. However, Cross’ hopes of reaching the play-offs look very slim with ten points to make up on MVG over the next three weeks.

Cross is certainly the player enjoying the better run of form as former Premier League leader, van Gerwen limps towards another play-off appearance. MVG has lost six of his past nine quarter-final matches whilst Rob Cross reached the final last week.

Rob Cross leads 2-1 in head-to-head matches in the Premier League and will need to win if he’s to keep his faint play-off hopes alive. Van Gerwen knows that another below-par week could see him fall out of the top four for the first time since week one.

Prediction: Michael van Gerwen

Gerwyn Price v Luke Humphries

Last year’s losing finalist, Gerwyn Price is another player whose Premier League race looks to be run. Only the Premier League’s top two have produced higher overall averages than Gerwyn Price but the Welshman’s inability to land key doubles has seen him complete just 88 checkouts in his 18 matches.

In contrast, world number one, Luke Humphries has performed consistently well throughout the Premier League and sits second on 26 points, on course for a spot in the play-offs. Humphries has however failed to reach the final in five weeks and has lost three of his last five quarter-final matches.

One more solid week of darts should be enough to see Humphries secure a top four finish and in a week where he finds himself in perhaps the easiest half of the draw, Luke Humphries will be confident of at least reaching the final Aberdeen.

Prediction: Luke Humphries
