The third Classic of the British flat racing calendar is Friday’s feature race at Epsom as we look forward to the Group 1 Betfred Oaks. We look ahead to one of the highlights of the flat season and assess the chances of some of the market leaders, offering race insights and expert betting tips as well as match odds and free bet offers from race sponsors, Betfred.
Oaks History
Established in 1779, the Oaks is the second-oldest of the five Classics after the St Leger and one of only two restricted to fillies. The Oaks is contested over 1m4f and open only to three-year-old fillies. Last year’s race was won by Soul Sister for trainers John & Thady Gosden. The continued duopoly of Gosden and Aidan O’Brien has seen the two esteemed trainers account for each of the past ten Oaks winners but whilst there are no Gosden representatives this year, O’Brien has two huge chances with both Ylang Ylang and Rubies Are Red.
Ylang Ylang Heads Oaks Field
Ylang Ylang won the Group 1 Fillies’ Mile in October before returning this year to finish fifth in the 1000 Guineas. Looks far better suited to Friday’s longer trip and she looks the pick of the O’Brien pair. Stablemate, Rubies Are Red is yet to win in three races but finished strongly in the Oaks Trial at Lingfield earlier this month.
Ezeliya is also lightly raced with only three previous runs, however she impressed when landing the Group 3 Salsabil Stakes at Navan last month. Trainer, Ralph Beckett is well-supported in The Oaks with no fewer than four confirmed entries. Forest Fairy looks the pick of the quartet and is 2/2 following her Cheshire Oaks success. You Got To Me also heads to Epsom on the back of a win last time out as she landed the Oaks Trial ahead of Rubies Are Red. Treasure ran well in the Oaks Trial but finished a subsequent fourth in the famous Royal Silks. Rossa Ryan took the saddle at Lingfield but he’s opted to ride Forest Fairy instead on Friday.
