Below you’ll find match insights, team news and betting tips as well as the latest match odds and free bet offers from our partners at Betfred.
Road To The Final
Both Real Madrid and Borussia Dortmund have done things the hard way in their efforts to reach Saturday’s Champions League final at Wembley Stadium. Whilst Real Madrid’s charge to the final included a two-legged tie against holders Manchester City, Borussia Dortmund had to escape the ‘group of death’.
Real Madrid were drawn in Group C alongside Napoli, Braga and Union Berlin but progressed with a perfect six wins from six. Borussia Dortmund will be the third German side to go up against Real Madrid in this season’s Champions League knockout stage with both RB Leipzig and Bayern Munich coming off second best against the 14-time winners. Sandwiched in between these two wins was a penalty shootout victory over Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Borussia Dortmund topped Group F despite failing to win any of their opening two matches. The Germans finished on 11 points, just ahead of Paris Saint-Germain, Milan and Newcastle United. Borussia Dortmund overcame tournament dark-horses PSV in the round of 16 before overturning a first leg defeat to edge past Atletico Madrid in the quarter-final. Borussia Dortmund headed into their semi-final tie against PSG as underdogs but won 1-0 home and away to book a spot in their first Champions League final since 2013.
Domestic Form
Real Madrid enjoyed a hugely successful season domestically, reclaiming their La Liga title with a comprehensive 10-point gap between them and fierce rivals Barcelona in second place. Real Madrid ended the season on 95 points and lost just once in the league all season. The Spanish giants head into Saturday’s final unbeaten in all competitions since September; albeit they did lose a Copa Del Rey tie in extra-time to Atletico Madrid in January.
Borussia Dortmund have qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League but on the whole they endured a below-par Bundesliga campaign. Borussia Dortmund finished fifth on 63 points, a massive 27 points off champions, Bayer Leverkusen.
End Of An Era For Two German Legends
Saturday’s final will provide the perfect send-off for either Toni Kroos or Marco Reus as they both prepare to leave the clubs they have served for so long. Kroos has confirmed his retirement from professional football following the conclusion of Euro 2024 which means the UEFA Champions League final will be his last in club football. Kroos’ international teammate, Marco Reus is not hanging up his boots just yet but his eight-year spell at Borussia Dortmund will also come to an end this weekend. The Dortmund captain is yet to confirm where he’ll be playing next season but the MLS looks a likely destination.

Betting Tips
Given their incredible unbeaten record and excellent domestic form, Real Madrid inevitably go into Saturday’s UEFA Champions League final as overwhelming favourites and at 8/13 they are not too short to back in the win-only market. Carlo Ancelotti’s side have scored four or more goals in three of their past four matches whilst there were over 2.5 match goals scored in the home and away legs of their semi-final win over Bayern Munich. Boost your odds by backing Real Madrid to win and over 2.5 match goals at 11/8.
Goal Fever
Place any pre-match Match Result single bet and if your chosen team wins by three or more goals, Betfred will pay you a 25% cash bonus on top of your winnings.
Double Delight & Hat-Trick Heaven
The first goalscorer market is always hugely popular with Betfred thanks to their ‘Double Delight & Hat-Trick Heaven’ promotion. Correctly predict the first goalscorer in the Champions League final and if your selected player goes on to score a second goal in the game your winning odds will be doubled whilst if they score a hat-trick your first goalscorer bet will pay out at three times the original odds.
Real Madrid’s newly-crowned La Liga Player of the Season, Jude Bellingham will inevitably prove popular in the goalscorer markets, as will Brazilian duo Vinicius Jr and Rodrygo. Vinicius Jr is the bookies’ favourite to win this year’s Ballon d’Or and a goal at Wembley on Saturday will do his chances no harm at all. At the other end of the pitch, Niclas Fullkrug has netted 15 goals in all competitions for Borussia Dortmund, including three in the UEFA Champions League. The German international is a real dark-horse in the Euro 2024 Golden Boot betting and he looks like Dortmund’s most likely source of goals at Wembley. Below are the latest goalscorer odds on some of the more popular selections.
