Monday's England v Bosnia and Herzegovina match marks the beginning of two Euro 2024 preparation games for Gareth Southgate.
This is a chance for the England manager to evaluate his squad before the tournament. He needs to cut down his extensive roster by seven players to finalise a 26-man team, offering players a chance to showcase their abilities.
England is heading into Euro 2024 as one of the top contenders for the title, alongside France, boasting a team packed with emerging young talent. However, before that, manager Gareth Southgate must narrow down his preliminary squad
.This provides an opportunity for young players like Jarrad Branthwaite, Jarrell Quansah, and Adam Wharton to make their mark at St. James' Park.
Meanwhile, Harry Maguire and Luke Shaw remain sidelined due to injuries, and star midfielder Jude Bellingham will be given rest following his efforts in the Champions League final with Real Madrid.
“[Gordon, Maguire and Shaw] are progressing well,” Southgate commented.
“So we’re pleased with the progress they’ve made. None of them will be involved tomorrow.
“I think Anthony has a good chance to be available for Friday [against Iceland]. The other two are a bit more unlikely, but we will just see how quickly they can go really.
