French Open: Women’s Singles Semi-Final - Preview & Odds

As we now look ahead to Thursday’s semi-final matches, here at betting.bet you’ll find the latest match and outright odds

There were a couple of major shocks in the quarter-final of the women’s singles tournament at the French Open as two of the top four seeds were dumped out of the competition on Wednesday. As we now look ahead to Thursday’s semi-final matches, here at betting.bet you’ll find the latest match and outright odds courtesy of our partners at bet365 as well as match insights and betting tips.

Iga Swiatek (1) v Coco Gauff (3)

Ig Swiatek remains on course for a fourth French Open title in five years thanks to a convincing 6-0 6-2 quarter-final win over fifth seed Marketa Vondrousova. Swiatek overcame an almighty scare against Naomi Osaka in round two but since then she has been imperious in wins over Marie Bouzkova (6-4 6-2), Anastasia Potapova (6-0 6-0) and Marketa Vondrousova.

In a repeat of the 2022 final, Swiatek now takes on world number three and reigning US Open champion Coco Gauff on Thursday. Coco Gauff did not drop a set in the first four rounds at Roland Garros but had to come from one set down to defeat Ons Jabeur (4-6 6-2 6-3) in their quarter-final.

As two of the most successful women’s players in recent years, Swiatek and Gauff have forged an intriguing rivalry but it is one that Swiatek currently dominates. Swiatek has won in straight sets in ten of the previous eleven encounters between her and Gauff, most recently in the Italian Open semi-final just one month ago. Swiatek has eliminated Gauff in each of the past two French Open tournaments. Coco Gauff’s only victory over Iga Swiatek came in a three-set classic during the 2023 Cincinnati Open. We’re tipping 23-year-old world number one Iga Swiatek to win in straight sets once more at odds of 4/9.

Jasmine Paolini (12) v Mirra Andreeva

Both Jasmine Paolini and Mirra Andreeva produced major shocks in the quarter-final, defying the odds to reach their first ever Grand Slam semi-finals. Twelfth seed Jasmine Paolini defeated Elena Rybakina (6-2 4-6 6-4) whilst remarkably 17-year-old Mirra Andreeva came from a set down to dump out world number two Aryna Sabalenka (6-7 6-4 6-4) in their quarter-final match.

Paolini undoubtedly benefited from a below-par Elena Rybakina that produced 48 unforced errors in their quarter-final tie. Andreeva is the youngest Grand Slam semi-finalist since Martina Hingis in 1997.

These two surprise semi-finalists have met once before, just six weeks ago when Andreeva claimed a straight-set victory in the Madrid Open. Jasmine Paolini also remains in contention to win the women’s doubles with her semi-final alongside teammate and compatriot Sara Errani scheduled for Friday. Mirra Andreeva was also booked to play in the women’s doubles quarter-finals on Wednesday but withdrew following her singles win over Sabalenka.

The rigours of Jasmine Paolini playing in both the singles and doubles tournaments may tilt this semi-final in the favour of teenager Mirra Andreeva as we’re tipping the Russian to book her place in Saturday’s final.
