An unsettled weather forecast could influence Royal Ascot conditions....
In the UK, the weather hotting up - and so is the racing action, with Royal Ascot just one week away. At betting.bet, we have taken a sneak peek at the weather forecast down in Ascot, starting from the 18th of June.
There are showers predicted for the end of this week and the beginning of next, which could affect the Royal Ascot going. It is currently being reported as "good to firm" in places, as of Monday afternoon.
Chris Stickels, Ascot’s clerk of the course, will deliver the first official going report for Royal Ascot on Tuesday, a week before the five-day event. Although, the condition of the ground next week will depend on the weather over the coming days.
“The preparation is going pretty well and things are setting up nicely,” Stickels said.
“We had two millimetres of rain this morning and a few spots since, so the going is a mix of good and good to firm, with more good than good to firm.
“We’re dry until Thursday night when low pressure will dominate. Thursday night, Friday, and at times over the weekend and into early next week, the outlook is unsettled. The volume of rain that might come is hard to predict at this stage."
“During Royal Ascot week, showers are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday, but the forecast will become clearer as we get closer to the event.”
The going for the opening day at Royal Ascot has been good or soft for three of the last five seasons. It was good to firm in 2021 and 2022.
The meeting will start with the traditional curtain-raiser, the Queen Anne Stakes, followed by two more Group 1 races, the King Charles III Stakes (formerly the King's Stand) and the St James's Palace Stakes, ensuring an exciting opening day!
