Poland were one of the final nations to book their place at this summer’s European Championships as they overcame Wales in a play-off final penalty shootout in March. The Poles have since earned back-to-back morale-boosting wins over Ukraine (3-1) and Turkey (2-1) and head to Germany unbeaten in eight internationals.

Prior to their play-off win against Wales in Cardiff, Poland had finished third in their qualification group behind group winners Albania and Czech Republic.

Like Poland, Netherlands have churned out a couple of impressive performances this month and head to Germany in a confident mood. The Dutch won 4-0 in consecutive matches against Canada and Iceland last week.

Netherlands finished second in their qualification group behind world champions France, losing both home and away to Les Bleus. Their other group games against Greece, Republic of Ireland and Gibraltar produced a perfect six wins out of six.

Poland v Netherlands: Head-to-Head

The Netherlands have an excellent recent record against Poland and head to Germany unbeaten in their last twelve matches against Sunday’s opponents. The last time these nations met was in September 2022 and the Netherlands emerged as 2-0 winners in that UEFA Nations League match thanks to goals from Cody Gakpo and Steven Berwijn.

Team News

Both Poland and the Netherlands have been handed major injury blows in the past few days with some key players set to miss Sunday’s fixture. Poland will be without captain and record goalscorer Robert Lewandowski on Sunday. The Barcelona forward sustained an arm injury in the win over Turkey and whilst he should be fit for next week’s match against Austria, the 35-year-old is unlikely to play any part in Sunday's group opener.

Lewandowski’s Barcelona teammate Frenkie de Jong was cut from Ronald Koeman’s final 26 after failing to overcome an ankle injury sustained in El Clasico in April. Compatriot Teun Koopmainers has also pulled out of the Dutch squad after suffering a groin injury before last week’s win over Iceland. Koopmainers had enjoyed an excellent season at Atalanta but will play no part in Euro 2024.

Betting Tips

Netherlands have recorded six clean sheets in their last seven matches and that rock-solid defence could prove critical in Germany. Netherlands to win to nil could be a real snip at 7/5, especially if as expected Robert Lewandowski sits out the Group D opener.

In Sunday’s goalscorer markets, we like the look of the 6/1 on offer for Dutch captain Virgil van Dijk to score at any time. Van Dijk scored in both internationals last week and looks equally appealing at 14/1 to score the first goal of the game on Sunday.

At BoyleSports you can place a bet on which player will score the most goals for their country at this summer’s tournament. Memphis Depay has an excellent goal scoring record at international level having netted 45 times in 92 international matches for the Netherlands and will prove a popular selection in the Dutch market at 10/3. However, he has only scored twice since the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Whilst fellow forwards Cody Gakpo and Wout Weghorst have overall delivered modest scoring returns. Weghorst has four in his last six internationals and looks particularly appealing at 10/1. Weghorst is also available at 2/1 to score at any time on Sunday.
