Musselburgh: Placepot Picker

There are six race meetings across the UK and Ireland today with no fewer than 43 races taking place across all cards. Six of those races take place at Musselburgh where there are several well-fancied favourites across the evening and a guaranteed £25,000 pool. Wednesday’s Placepot Picker offers a perfect opportunity to take on some of these favourites and put together a Tote Placepot that could offer quite significant returns if successful.

Leg 1 - 6:10

Join Racing TV Now Confined Maiden Stakes (Horses That Have Not Run More Than 3 Times) (GBB Race)

DAIN MA NUT IN - 15/2

There are two standout selections at the head of the market with both National Interest and First Alliance currently available at short prices. We’re hoping to see at least one of the leading pair flop in the opener; however the Placepot pays out for the first three so may just be a case of finding the best of the rest.

For us this could be Dain Ma Nut In for trainer Lucinda Russell. Fifth on his first race as a three-year-old and should welcome the step up to one mile under in-form jockey Oisin Orr.

Leg 2 - 6:40

James Jones Sawmill Handicap

DESERT QUEST - 10/3

There are only four runners confirmed for the second race of the evening and with only backers of the race winner of this wide-open contest rolling onto the third leg of the Placepot there could be a lot of casualties in this. Red Force One is the only C&D winner in the race but that win was almost two years ago. Tasfir is a two-time course winner at Musselburgh and quite rightly the bookies’ favourite but if he is to be taken on then outsider Desert Quest could be the one to be on. Desert Quest was a beaten favourite at Ayr a couple of weeks ago but now steps back up to two miles. Should he see out the trip he is capable of turning his three rivals over.

Leg 3 - 7:10

Crypto Club Selling Stakes

J STREET - 9/1

Unspoken Love is the 3/10 favourite in leg three and whilst the Placepot pays out on two places, we’re hoping to see this odds-on favourite turned over. J Street was badly hampered at the start when well-beaten in the Woodcote at Epsom two weeks ago and should go well based on the form shown on debut at Beverley at the beginning of May. Drops from a Class 2 to a Class 5 for this and could bounce back.

Leg 4 - 7:40

75Media Handicap

SPOOK - 6/1

Another race with an odds-on favourite where the Placepot pays out for two places. We’ll once again be hoping to see the favourite turned over but if He’s Got Game hacks up we have the comfort of second place. Spook runs in her first handicap after three encouraging runs since her debut in April. Seems to have improved with each of her three races and should go well off a decent mark.

Leg 5 - 8:15

Racing TV Profits Returned To Racing Handicap

PEMBROKESHIRE - 11/2

Pembrokeshire produced two good runs last month before a below-par effort at Ayr last time out. Hood goes back on and it would not be a shock to see this C&D winner go close once more on Thursday evening. Patontheback is the 13/8 favourite despite a 5lbs penalty.

Leg 6 - 8:45

Visit racingtv.com Handicap

SIXCOR - 6/1

Golden Rainbow and Havagomecca have both been well-supported in the betting but at least one of these can be turned over in the final race of the evening. Sixcor has made the frame on all three runs on turf this year and looks far more at ease after a difficult start to 2024 on the AW. A previous C&D winner that should go well despite the poor form of trainer Linda Perratt.
