Euro 2024 has come at the perfect time for Germany as the hosts have built up some real momentum under Julian Nagelsmann. Germany head into Friday’s fixture on the back of three wins and a draw in four friendly matches against France (2-0), Netherlands (2-1), Ukraine (0-0) and Greece (2-1) so far this year.
In contrast, Scotland have struggled in recent internationals. Their 2-0 win at Gibraltar last week was their only win in nine internationals. Steve Clarke’s side have struggled defensively during that run of games, conceding 21 goals in those nine matches.

Scotland have won four of their 17 international matches against Germany however, they have never beaten Friday’s opponents in a competitive international. Excluding friendlies, these two nations have met on eight occasions; Germany have six wins and the other two matches have ended all-square. The most recent international fixture played between Germany and Scotland ended 3-2 to the Germans at Hampden Park in September 2015.
