Royal Ascot will inevitably grab all of the horse racing headlines this week but the five-day spectacle is far from the only race meeting taking place this week. In addition to Royal Ascot’s Ladies’ Day, today also features flat racing on the turf at Ripon and Lingfield as well as a couple of all-weather meetings at Chelmsford and Wolverhampton. We have scanned these four alternative racecards being staged across Britain and have narrowed them down to a hat-trick of intriguing picks at Ripon. BURJ MALINKA - 5/1
We kick off the day with the ultra-consistent Burj Malinka. Winner over 6f off 4lbs lower at Thirsk in April and has placed on all four runs since. Will certainly welcome dryer ground but looks primed for a return to the winners enclosure on Thursday. C&D winner Run This Way looks the biggest danger but the Paul Midley-trained mare certainly favours softer ground.

GARDEN OASIS - 4/1
Ey Up Its The Boss has placed on all three runs this year with each outing here at Ripon. No luck in running when third over track and trip last time out. C&D winner two runs ago but subsequent form of rivals suggest that was a low-quality race and we’re happy to take the favourite in this. Up The Jazz could run well for in-form trainer Richard Fahey but preference here is for Garden Oasis.
Garden Oasis steps up to 1m2f for the first time this year and has not won over the distance since 2018 but the manner of his 1m win here at Ripon two weeks ago eases any stamina concerns. Would appreciate faster ground but he should quicken up nicely.

Ripon Races Ladies Day Handicap
MR WAGYU - 10/3
C&D winner Mr Wagyu has been far from disgraced in the past two renewals of the Wokingham Stakes at Royal Ascot but swerves this year’s meeting after some sub-par runs over the past twelve months. Encouraging signs when second in a strong looking handicap at Epsom earlier this month and despite a 3lbs rise for that run, he could go well once more for a much respected yard.
