Scotland play Hungary on Sunday in a huge Euro 2024 fixture in Stuttgart. The ongoing participation of both nations at this summer’s tournament is hanging by a thread and the team that loses on Sunday will become the first nation to be eliminated from the European Championships. Ahead of this key Group A fixture, here at you’ll find the latest team news, match insights and expert betting tips as well as the best match odds from our partners at Ladbrokes.

Group Stage Update

Scotland got their Euro 2024 campaign off to a disastrous start as they lost 5-1 to hosts Germany on the opening night of the tournament. However, Steve Clarke’s side have since battled back to claim a 1-1 draw against Switzerland to give themselves an outside chance of qualifying for the knockout stage.

Hungary have lost back to back matches against Switzerland (3-1) and Germany (2-0) to sit on the brink of elimination. However, with four of the six best-performing third placed teams set to qualify for the round of 16, they still retain hopes for progressing.

Team News

Scotland have been dealt a major fitness blow ahead of this crucial fixture after confirmation that Kieran Tierney will miss the rest of Euro 2024 with a hamstring injury.

Ryan Porteous will also sit out Sunday’s fixture as he serves the final game of a two-match ban after his red card against Germany.

Hungary have no injury concerns but are likely to ring the changes ahead of this must-win fixture. Cult hero Martin Adam is amongst a number of changes that may be selected from the start on Sunday.

Predicted Line Ups

Scotland: Gunn, Hendry, Hanley, McKenna, Ralston, McGregor, Gilmour, Robertson, McTominay, McGinn, Adams

Hungary: Gulacsi, Fiola, Orban, Dardai, Nego, A. Nagy, Schafer, Kerkez, Sallai, Szoboszlai, Varga

Betting Tips

Following their 5-1 drubbing at the hands of Germany, Scotland will take real encouragement from their 1-1 draw against Switzerland and despite heading into Sunday’s match as slight underdogs, we’re tipping them to give themselves a real chance of reaching the round of 16 by taking all three points. Scotland to win is superb value at 6/4.

Both Scotland and Hungary know that a draw is unlikely to be enough to see them through to the knockout stage. This could open us up to a thriller in Stuttgart on Sunday. Both teams to score seems a certainty at 4/7 whilst over 2.5 match goals is an equally attractive proposition at 13/20.

Scott McTominay was often the hero for Scotland in their qualifying campaign and the Manchester United midfielder popped up with the opening goal against Switzerland on Wednesday. McTominay is excellent value at 13/5 to score at any time against Hungary whilst he is 15/2 to score the opening goal for a second successive match.
