Here at betting.bet we’ll preview the women’s singles championship at Wimbledon, providing the latest news, information and betting tips as well as the best outright odds
As we look forward to the third Grand Slam tournament of the year, this year’s Wimbledon women’s singles championship looks as tough to call as ever with several players in with an excellent chance of glory at SW19. Here at betting.bet we’ll preview the women’s singles championship at Wimbledon, providing the latest news, information and betting tips as well as the best outright odds courtesy of our betting partners at William Hill.
The Defending Champion
Marketa Vondrousova was a shock winner at SW19 twelve months ago as she won the Wimbledon women’s singles title despite never previously progressing beyond round two and the All England Club. The current world number six heads to Wimbledon on the back of a French Open quarter-final.
Major Players
Aryna Sabaleka is the bookies’ favourite despite exiting the French Open at the quarter-final stage. That last-eight defeat at Roland Garros ended a run of six successive Grand Slam semi-finals for Sabalenka. The 26-year-old has reached the semi-final of the last two Wimbledon tournaments she has been involved in but there is no denying that the two-time Australian Open champion is better suited to Melbourne’s hard courts.
Elena Rybakina won the 2022 Wimbledon women’s singles title and has been in decent form so far in 2024. The world number four has won three WTA Tour titles already this year having triumphed at the Stuttgart Open, Abu Dhabi Open and Brisbane International.
Iga Swiatek has been the standout player in women’s tennis in recent years but the five-time Grand Slam champion has never quite been as effective on grass as she has been on both clay and hard courts. Swiatek lost in the quarter-final last year, the only time she has been beyond round four at Wimbledon. The world number one has won several WTA Tour events this year including the Qatar Open, Indian Wells Open, Madrid Open, Italian Open and most recently the French Open.
An Outside Chance
The real dark horse in this year’s women’s event at Wimbledon is Tunisian world number ten Ons Jabeur. The 29-year-old has been a losing finalist at Wimbledon in each of the past two years and has been consistent recently, reaching the quarter-finals of the French Open and both subsequent grass court events she’s been involved in. Jabuer has now lost three Grand Slam finals and would prove a popular maiden Grand Slam champion at Wimbledon this year.
