Group Stage Recap
Spain impressed throughout the group stage and were the only nation to qualify for the knockout stage with a 100% record from their three matches. Despite being drawn in the so-called ‘Group of Death’, Spain won all three Group B matches without conceding a single goal.
Following wins over European giants Croatia (3-0) and Italy (1-0), Spain rounded off their group stage with a 1-0 win against Albania in Düsseldorf.
Georgia were the lowest ranked nation to qualify for Euro 2024 but defied their status as tournament minnows to progress beyond the group stage of their first ever major tournament. Georgia were unlucky when losing to Turkey (3-1) and again when drawing 1-1 with the Czech Republic. However, the Group F underdogs went through as one of the best third placed teams thanks to a famous 2-0 win over 2016 champions Portugal.
Team News
Spain made ten changes for their final group game against Albania but many of those starters will make way for Sunday’s round of 16 fixtures.
Manchester City midfielder Rodri missed the 1-0 win over Albania but is certain to slot back into Spain’s engine room whilst Alvaro Morata will captain La Roja as he’s recalled to the starting XI.
Georgia will be without midfielder Anzor Mekvabishvili for Sunday’s match following a second group stage booking in the win over Portugal.
Spain v Georgia: Head-to-Head
Spain and Georgia were drawn in the same qualifying group for Euro 2024 and it was Spain that emerged as comfortable winners on both occasions. Last September Spain ran out dominant 7-1 winners away in Tbilisi and followed up by winning 3-1 in the home fixture.

For Georgia, simply making it this far is an incredible achievement and Spain will be the red-hot favourites to progress to the quarter-finals. At the other end of the pitch, Spain’s Alvaro Morata remains one of the bookies’ favourites to win the Golden Boot despite scoring just once in the group stage. Morata is 11/4 to open the scoring on Sunday or 5/6 to score at any time. Additionally, the Spain captain will prove popular at 9/2 to score 2 or more.
