Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby Festival: Day Two Tips

Day two of the Irish Derby Festival takes place on Saturday with eight more races contested at the Curragh. Here at betting.bet we’ve hand-picked some of our standout options, providing odds from our betting partners at BoyleSports.

Curragh Racing Tips

  • Gordon Bennett (10/3)
  • Emily Upjohn (11/4)
  • Bialystok (15/8)

GORDON BENNETT - 10/3

There has been plenty of market support for both Gordon Bennett and Apricot Ice over the past couple of days and this pair are arguably the best two selections in the race. Apricot Ice won over C&D here last month and despite a 3lbs rise she should be there or thereabouts once more. Red Letter Bray was a shock 100/1 winner over C&D last month and should go well again, albeit off a 6lbs higher mark.

Gordon Bennett was well down the field in last month’s race won by Red Letter Bray but he’s our pick to win this on Saturday. He had no luck in running last month and could fare much better with a clear run off the same mark. Now 11lbs lower than last winning mark.

Cairn Community Games Pretty Polly Stakes (Group 1)

EMILY UPJOHN - 11/4

Bluestocking is a deserved favourite for Saturday’s feature race after landing the Group 2 Middleton Fillies’ Stakes at York last month. However our preference is for Emily Upjohn at  the Curragh despite her poor run at Royal Ascot earlier this month.

Probably more suited to Saturday’s 1m2f trip and steps back down to this distance for the first time since finishing second to Paddington in last  year’s Coral-Eclipse. Has to rediscover her 2023 form to win this but is more than capable.

BIALYSTOK - 15/8

The Willie Mullins-trained Bialystok is our third and final selection at the Curragh on Saturday as he returns to the flat on the back of an indifferent couple of seasons over hurdles. Faller at Punchestown last time out and has actually failed to win two of his last four races however, his second placed finish in the Scottish Champion Hurdle at Ayr two runs ago was a solid performance. Likely to enjoy leaving the obstacles behind and enjoyed some decent flat runs in France under his previous owners.  Not run on the flat for 1019 days but do not be deterred by that, he is the one to beat on Saturday.
