France and Belgium meet in Düsseldorf on Monday in one of the eight round of 16 ties at Euro 2024. Both nations are yet to hit top gear in Germany but retain a real chance of going deep into the tournament. Here at betting.bet we’ll preview this key fixture, offering expert betting tips, match insights and team news as well as the latest pre-match odds and offers from our partners at BoyleSports.
Group Stage Recap
France were the bookies’ favourites to top Group D but produced three underwhelming performances to finish behind Austria in second. France kicked off their tournament with a 1-0 over Austria thanks to a Maximilian Wober own-goal before following up with a 0-0 draw against the Netherlands.
Les Bleus were expected to clinch top spot in the group as they took on an already-eliminated Poland in their final group game. However another lacklustre performance saw France held to a 1-1 draw.
Belgium also failed to top their group after some below-par group stage performances. The Red Devils kicked off Group E with a shock 1-0 defeat against Slovakia and despite bouncing back to beat Romania 2-0, Belgium rounded off the group with a tame 0-0 draw against Ukraine.
All four nations involved in Group E finished level on four points with Belgium taking second position behind Romania and ahead of Slovakia and Ukraine.
Betting Tips
No French player has scored a goal from open play at Euro 2024 yet we’re backing the two-time European champions to finally start justifying their positing amongst the pre-tournament favourites on Monday. France to win inside 90 minutes is excellent value at 5/6.
Two of the pre-tournament favourites for the Golden Boot meet in Düsseldorf with Kylian Mbappe and Romelu Lukaku set to lead the line for France and Belgium respectively. Mbappe’s only goal so far at Euro 2024 came from the penalty spot whilst Lukaku is yet to get off the mark despite having three goals disallowed by VAR. Both players will prove popular in the various goal scorer markets and below are their respective odds in these markets.
Kylian Mbappe | Romelu Lukaku | |
---|---|---|
To score at any time | 11/8 | 11/4 |
First goalscorer | 4/1 | 13/2 |
Last goalscorer | 4/1 | 13/2 |
To score 2 or more | 8/1 | 20/1 |
To score a hat-trick | 40/1 | 100/1 |
Given our belief that both Mbappe and Lukaku will come out firing on Monday, backing both teams to score seems a sensible idea at odds of 20/21. Additionally, France to win and both teams to score is worth a second look at generous odds of 7/2.
